    HK USP Compact Value

I have a question for you guys. If you were to purchase/trade a pistol but the pistol in question was engraved with the old owners initials would you deduct some value and if so how much? This is my conundrum. Help. Thanks in advance.

I've never paid over 700 otd for a usp. That's the most I would spend too.

        Engraved or scratched?

Yes, it will definitely devalue the gun.

What does it cost to fill it and refinish the slide? Deduct that amount?

I would definitely not go over $500 for that gun. Does it look refinishable? It looks pretty deep from the pic.

LOL. Yes looks more scratched then engraved. As I have not made the trade just yet I am not sure if I would be able to "buff" that out. I am sure if I wanted to dump money into the slide it could be fixed but not really looking to do that either.

I am wondering how much I should deduct from the price. Meaning if the person is selling for say $600 how much would you offer to buy the pistol for as is in the picture?

Depends on the accessories offered. Gun by itself with the two factory mags? $500 tops

Have you seen it in person? Since it's stainless at least you wouldn't have to refinish it afterwards... but it looks like graffiti to me. Like buying a used BMW with some dudes initials dented into the side with a screwdriver.

I would probably offer $400 and see where it goes. If the seller wants to be rid of it I can't imagine he has a lot of better options.

$600 for any HK USP is a very reasonable price IMHO.

yeah not fond of "engraving" like that. Its one thing if its clean but it doesnt look good and i do more collecting than anything so that would be a quick pass from me.

Looks like he carved the initials in.

500-600 tops otherwise I'd get something else. Stainless 40 isn't rare.

So nooooowwwww people care about how the gun looks. Forget about how it works. [emoji14]

Personally I would not buy anything that has been engraved or otherwise defaced like that. I would pass on it. Tools, guns, completely devalued. Shop elsewhere man. Actually, even if it were like $200 I wouldn't buy it because I don't want to deal with the headache of trying to remove it, or replace the slide and all that comes with doing that... yada yada I dunno and I don't really want the spare parts cluttering my well organized live/work space.

It's kinda like dating a pregnant chick. It just ain't gonna happen.
