    Chiappa Rhino...Grip Warning!

Hello CGers. Just wanted to make you aware of your grip if you shoot a Chiappa Rhino because the gas coming out between the cylinder and frame charred my thumb. Do not hold it with your thumb pointing forward near the cylinder, which I mostly shoot semi autos, because it fires from the bottom of the cylinder vs. The top. It's my friend's revolver didn't warn me of it until after it blew my thumb. Luckily still had my thumb on the first shot. I will say the recoil is amazingly light compared to normal .357s and is a great shooter.

In case you can't see the pic above, go to page 15 in the Chiappa user's manual:

Yeah, I just don't want this happening to others but it is an amazing revolver. I still shot it after bandaging my thumb. Lol

Yea, ouch, dont stick fingers along side escaping gas from the cylinder of any revolver but this one especially due to the low mounted barrel.

Yeah, experienced Revo shooters will teach you "Thumb over Thumb" as opposed to Thumb in front of Thumb (Semi-auto hold). I change my grip based on platform.. Ya just don't want your appendages anywhere near that cylinder gap..

Yeah. It felt like it did blow my thumb off. First thing I checked was if my thumb was there. Lol

This is the case with any revolver, yeah?

The rhino sure is cool, good going picking one up!

As mentioned earlier by others -- but it apparently needs repeating -- don't do this with ANY revolver.

Thumbs forward below the cylinder are fine with revolvers that fire from the top of the cylinder, because the gases come out between the top of the cylinder and top of frame. Not with Chiappa Rhinos, because they fire from the bottom of the cylinder, so the gases blow out from the bottom of the cylinder. I will be modifying my thumb grip to keep my thumb away from the cylinder for revolvers going forward per others who have mentioned it to never use thumbs forward for revolvers.

Thanks for the heads up OP. Not that I'll have the chance to shoot one anytime soon but I would have made the same mistake.

Ouch! My first gun was a revolver where I used the thumb over thumb grip to prevent such an injury. Thanks for the warning.
