AR Pistol store bought vs DIY

I've been looking at building an AR pistol and I'm trying to decide if its worth it for me to build one myself and buy all the tools, or pay someone to build it. I only plan on owning one AR pistol. Is it cheaper to buy all the tools and build the pistol myself? Or cost effective to pay someone else to build it for me?

Probably about the same cost wise. I think it's between 200-250 fee to have a shop do it. Tools/jig would be about the same, IMO.

If you are even slightly mechanically inclined, I would suggest just building it yourself. Especially with parts being relatively inexpensive and currently abundant. Basically all you need as for tools is an armorers wrench, magwell block (I recommend the Magpul BEV Block), rollpin punches and a vise.

Not only will you take pride in knowing you built the firearm yourself, but you will also have the knowledge in case you need to make a repair on it in the future. Plus it's just darn fun!

Good luck, have fun and stay safe!

If you have no plans to make additional lowers from 80%, then you're better off paying a premium and buying it via ppt. Once you have the registered pistol lower, then you're good to go (all laws apply).

Even if you are just planning on one AR pistol, I think its still worth getting tools and building it yourself. There's always a possibility of wanting a different barrel or handguard later on and having the armorer's block and barrel wrench makes it an easy job instead of paying someone else to do it for you. For a lower, Polymer80 lower kits already come with drill bits, end mill to make them 100%.

Is the process of getting an ar pistol deisignated lower the same as before? Just reg a lower that way?

I'd get whatever option is available to you for the least amount of money.

I bought mine before sse ended...and that took care of my ar15 pistol bug, because I never got around to building my 80 percents....

Also, keep in mind, it's a little harder to sell a home brew than a ar15 pistol that has a paper trail.
