    S&W Mod 10-6

One day after lunch I was haveing gun withdraws. I had only bought 12 guns for the year so far and was feeling the urge to get another. I stopped off at a pawn shop on the way back to the lab to have a look around.
Sitting in the display case was a pretty good looking S&W Mod 10 with a four inch heavy barrel priced at $249.99. It had a set of Goodyears on it, I like wood.
It wasn't in the best shape, but $249.99 was still a great price.
Now if you know me, buying guns is like a game to me. I look for something below market value and then try to get it for less.
I start to talk with the guy and he says to make him an offer. So I tell him I'll give him $200 out the door for it. He said he would check. He then pulled it up on the computer and got a sad look on his face. He said that whoever made the lown on the gun had put to much in it. He let me look at the screen and I could see that he had $240 in the gun.
I told him that was a little more then I wanted to pay and handed the gun back to him. He then said that he would be willing to take a $10 loss to move the gun and would let me have it for $230. Well I bought the gun.
When I got back to the Lab I let my friend that is a S&W Armor have a look at it. He said it was in pretty good shape and that I should be ashame for paying so little for the gun.
He said that it needed a good cleaning and a minor adjustment to tighten up the cylinder so, we took it apart.

My friend did a great job tuning it up. It's slick and shoots great.

Here it is all cleaned up along with a Bianchi #58 holster.
I don't much care for rubber grips so I pulled out an old set of Smith wood grips from my grip box. I still need to find a grip screw.

Wow, at $250 for that gun and you still negotiated it down and the pawn shop had to eat a $10 loss? I was gonna offer you a free grip screw but nah, you already stole that one.

I hope this gun brings you the joy that you seek.

Edit: Re-reading my post made me think that my post could be misinterpreted. I just wanted to say CONGRATS on a nice Model 10!

At $250 I wouldn't even risk negotiation, I'd pay the man and run out the door before he changed his mind!

4 inch HB model 10s are just plain neat. A real classic!

Not at all true. You would be shocked at what I find and at what price in CA. S&W revolvers especially due to CA laws though are a harder category to find deals in.

This one is just another nail in my coffin. LOL
Now you have to understand, I don't need anymore guns I have right at 400 or more. I don't want to count them because, the last time I did it took me almost two years of buying to loose count again. A man should not be able to tell you how many guns he has. Just like a woman can't tell you how many pairs of shoes she has. It' in the Man Laws somewhere.
So when I go looking for guns, I am just looking for something that will catch my eye.
Getting a gunshop to drop their price is like asking a woman out. If you never ask you will never get a date or money off.
Don't be afrade to ask for something off the price. The worst thing that could happen is, they could say no.

$230 is like going back in time 20 years when police agencies were selling off their S&W revolvers and switching to autos. I remember a shop that had about a dozen of them. I looked at them and thought, "who would want those old things?" Funny, now I wish I had bought one or two.

                  Congratulations on a good find!

Nice catch on a 40 year old S&W. Always great deals in the south. Semper Fi

Even as recently as 10-15 years ago I was occasionally finding model 10 revolvers for $125-150 or even less. Security companies were dumping them off too. I even bought the Taurus clones like the model 82 for less than $100.

I remember back in 1998 you could pick up a pristine condition Royal Hong Kong Police S&W model 10 for $200. I still wish I had gotten one.

I really would like to find a cheap RHKP model 10. I passed up a Colt version marked RHKP about 15 years ago I think I remember it being a Police Positive in 38 S&W.
