    2011 Owners

I'm trying get my hands on a complete STI pistol or build one from the frame but before I do that I want to get some opinion from the current owners. I plan on doing one in 9mm. Does shooting 10 rds out of it feel silly? What are some reliable mags?

I only used 2 types of mags for 9mm 1911... Mecgar and Wilson Combat. I had 1 issue with mecgar... which was FTF, but it only happened once. Wilson Combat never gave me any problems.
I've only owned 2011 in 45, don't have any experience with 2011s in 9mm... but it should be the same internally between 1911 and 2011.

9mm in a 2011 is a real soft shooting combo. Most 3 gunners use a setup like that. I have two 2011s for USPSA and they're both in .40 and still shoot really soft. As far as mags, all are reliable or can be made reliable with simple tuning. I believe STI is the only company that makes 10rd factory mags, however. Good luck finding them, or find a way to modify some tubes.

I got 10rd blocks for my 140mm...it is a little silly having a 20rds mag and only holds 10...as far as reliability I haven't shot my sti edge 9mm yet

2011 mags arent cheap. Welcome and enjoy.

some like the double stack feel more than single stack. Many reasons to go 2011

Shooting 10 rounds out of every double stacked pistol feels silly. When I shoot 10 rounds out of my single stack 9mm 1911 the fun just ends too quickly. Annnd 2011 mags makes HK mags seems cheap by comparison.

The Dawson tuning kit might be the way to go. Do you guys have any experience with it?

i ordered a tuning kit just in case...i have 5 140mm sti mags blocked to 10rds....im going to take my new sti edge this saturday to the range and hopefully the mags works....I have a feeling I might have to tune it. I watch a video and it doesn't look hard tuning the mags

10 round mags are the Democrats way to teach you to do rapid mag changes.

If you plan on shooting USPSA, then 9mm puts you at a scoring disadvantage...unless your a great shot and can shoot all A's at speed.

For steel the 9mm is the way to go.

As for blocking the mags to 10 rounds....yeah...it would suck, but the 2011 platform is a nice shooting pistol.

Below is a video of my Brazos STI Edge in 9mm. As you can see...it is a very flat shooting.

I am actually going to be listing this pistol for sale as soon as I get some time to take pics.

If you're in Socal you can pick up a 2011 frame via SSEv2 from Empowered Firearms. Ask for chad and tell him roger sent you. I personally just picked up 3 Phoenix trinity frames with full dust cover.
