help on my delay

so i just try to purchse my 1st handgun and i got a letter from the doj saying it got delay only thing i could think of is a misdemeanor i had 6yrs ago for commercial burglary which was dismissed my only question is whats the number to contact the doj and try to see whats the hold up or would the misdemeanor affect me getting my gun? any help plz??

I've been through this. Here's what you need to do:

Go down to your local UPS store (or whoever does Live Scans).

Get a Live Scan for "check for accuracy and completeness"

DO NOT get the Live Scan for "Firearms Eligibility Check".

I repeat, do not get the firearms check. They like to stick it to gun buyers at every turn so that Live Scan will not give you all the information that you need to move forward with any corrections to your record.

You will probably get kicked out to "Undetermined Status" after 30 days. Hopefully you purchased from an FFL that will release to "Undetermined". Either way it will be good to clean up your loose ends so you don't have to deal with this in the future.

There's a good chance that the dispositions were no recorded on your RAP Sheet. So once you get a copy with your Live Scan, you can take a look and address anything with the reporting agencies that need to be filled in/completed. It's not as big of a pain as it seems like at the point you're at, and once you have it wrapped up you'll feel a lot better.
