model 19 vs colt python

Had a Python and it was so highly polished I was always afraid of it getting scratched.
I did not like the way it handled with full power loads and sold it.
Purchased a S&W 686 and never looked back.
Overall the 19 is a well made revolver that can handle a lot of full power loads.
The K frame with a four inch barrel is the perfect match of form and function.
The 686 is an L frame with a k frame size grip. Not a compromise but a smart design.
Only reason I wish I had the Python is for the ridiculous amount of money I could sell it for and buy more Smith & Wessons.

Just to clarify, when I was shooting my Python, I was not shooting my Gold Cup. I was shooting my S&W 686 and comparing the Python to the 686. The shooting was done with both double and single action.sigpicComment

I prefer S&W for double action. Python feels smooth in double action, but there is a hump before it releases the sear that I feel needing extra pull. Single action doesn't matter on either revolver.Originally posted by krypto99I have a 19 that is awesome. Shoots great. I've only held the father in laws python haven't actually shot it. Trigger is smoother on the python.Comment

Used- one is $400 and one is $1,400- $4,500
For the money, I would only buy the smith.....
This in not a Glock (striker/ polymer) VS 1911 (steel & Hammer) comparison...
More of a Springfield to Kimber 1911 comparison...
The colt uses a coil spring so it is easier to change out the springs to a lighter and less reliable trigger pull. The smith uses a flat leaf spring and is more difficult for the end user to modify....Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I've owned and shot both since the early 70s. I like the look of the Python more
and I'm a Colt fan forever, however,my Pythons fell out of time very easily as
compared to the S&W. Could be fixed easily but I always felt the S&W was
more durable. For what most NEED a handgun for the price of any S&W is a much more logical choice. I do prefer Colt autos over S&Ws but YMMV. PeteComment

S&W's are shooters.
Python's are lookers."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

I have had both. My Python was a beautiful gun, smooth and accurate. It just got to be worth so much that I grew reluctant to take it out and shoot it.
I also have a Model 19, a Model 27 and a 586. Of them all, the 586 is the closest to the Python in how it feels and balances in my hand. The M27 has just as good a single action trigger and is nearly as good in double action. The M19 has the best balance of them all. The triggers on Smiths are very nice right from the factory and just get better with use.
If I was buying one today, I would probably opt for a pinned and recessed Model 27 with a 3 1/2" barrel.MLC member.

A Python is in a class by itself. Except a Korth maybe.sigpic
