I just purchased a Hk P2000Sk (40 S&W) that I've been wanting for some time. A friend recommended Buffalo Bore ammo... anyone have any experience with this brand?

I've never used Buffalo Bore so I can't comment on that. I've always used and recommend Federal HST or Winchester Ranger 180g

Buffalo Bore is a good brand of ammo. But ive only used their 500 magnum. Good but pricey ammo

I also use Federal Hydro and Winchester Taxas Ranger as well for carry & HD.

I prefer Hornady Critical Duty for most of my pistol ammo needs. Most of the time, whatever the penetration in gel is, subtract a few inches when it's real tissue.

Generally speaking, I like cartridges that penetrate between 16" to 20" in gel. That'll yield me betwee 14" to 18" in real tissue.

A subcompact .40 S&W is an odd choice for home defense, but read this post by a well known would ballistic expert.

Bullet designs like the Silver Tip, Hydra-Shok, and Black Talon were state of the art 15 or 20 years ago. These older bullets tend to plug up and act like FMJ projectiles when shot through heavy clothing; they also often have significant degradation in terminal performance after first passing through intermediate barriers. Modern ammunition which has been designed for robust expansion against clothing and intermediate barriers is significantly superior to the older designs. Subcompact guns were made for backup or conceal carry purpose. Most people tend to use full size or compact for HD due to less recoil and better accuracy than subcompact.

Buffalo bore is hot.
The low recoil low flash offering is not my first choice in a gun your size and weight.

I stick with 180gr in 40.
You may find lighter loads snappier.
My 229 and Glock 23 are easier to shoot a lot when I don't go with 155's or 165s'.

Speer TMJ is pretty representative of what a Gold Dot would shoot like.
I'd sample a variety of loads and go with what works best for you.
