    Another newbie question

Ok last dumb question for the evening. I have a Bushmaster 308 and just ordered the Daniel Defense furniture kit. Tried to install the buttatock and it doesn't even come close to fitting my buffer tube. My rifle is millspec but didn't know that the DD stocks were not (or are they?). What the heck is going on? Is there a DD stock for 556 vs 308? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are two types of buffer tubes. Mil spec and commercial. Mil Spec is smaller in diameter compared to a commercial. Usually but not always you can tell by looking at the end. Mil Spec buffer tub is straight where as commercial is a bit slanted.

If you have a commercial stock on a mil spec tube it will fit but it will move around. If you have a mil spec stock (Daniel Defense usually is I believe) it won't fit on a commercial tube since the tube is bigger than milspec tubes.
