Much ado about nothing
I have no qualms about it as the sole weapon (other than a knife and pepper spray) for civilian use.
Then again, if you're law enforcement, it would probably better serve as a back-up weapon.
IMHO, if one is off-duty, I don't see a problem with it as one's sole weapon (with a knife and pepper spray).
READ page 12 of the Manual. For carry, I would strongly advise to ALWAYS chamber that first round using the slide release. I first open and lock the slide, then I insert a loaded magazine, then press down on the slide release. One is virtually assured the slide will go fully into battery-otherwise, it can not be guaranteed.
Frankly, I don't see the big deal. If you use the firearm and it is operating properly, the slide will be locked open after the last round in the magazine, drop the spent magazine, then simply insert another loaded one and press down on the slide release.
