First time taking down 1911 10mm (pic)

Holy crap the tolerances were really tight. I couldn't get the guide rod off, long guide rod on a 5 inch barrel. Then I couldn't get the bushing off.

Finally figured it out, you turn the bushing clockwise then counter clockwise slightly to get it off.

Anyone else remember their first time?

    Is that a bushing comp?

At least you didn't fall victim to the "idiot scratch" on your 1911

I thought about that, I don't understand how people do that since the pin pops straight up.

The idiot scratch happens on reinsertion of the slide stop, when you sometimes can't push straight inward. But ya I remember the first time I tried to strip a 1911.... clueless lol

I pick up a 10mm eclipse next Friday to compliment my 10mm stainless

From a fellow Kimber 10mm owner -- congrats. How does the comp absorb the recoil?

I always wanted a 10mm, but I am recoil sensitive. Not sure if I can handle the recoil.

I haven't shot it yet. Bushing comps aren't very good at absorbing recoil though, you need a threaded comp that screws onto your barrel.

I was going to post that. For a 10mm the extra weight added to the slide might help soften the unlocking portion of the gun cycling.

It's a 1911, they have tight tolerances. Why none of the production models work, because if one or multiple parts are even a fraction out of spec things don't work right.( can't get them dirty either) 1911 was originally done by hand, and now you have to pay top dollar to get one done by hand.
