    HK P7

I'd like to hear some thoughts on these guns. Do they have a good aftermarket, availability of magazines, parts, etc? Do they feed JHP reliably?

I'm thinking of selling my Sig P6 towards one because my P6 doesn't feed JHP well. I want a single stack 9mm that I would feel comfortable carrying someday.

I enjoy mine very much - There are some aftermarket mags from USA I believe - Stay away from them - Besides that nothing is else is aftermarket - They feed JHP well -

My P7 feeds every type of ammo I've fed it including JHP without a problem. +p ammo is not an issue either.

Magazines are about $55.00 and like every P7 part easy to get from HKParts. HKParts ships to Ca.

Since the barrel is fixed and very low in the frame they are natural pointers. This feature reduces felt recoil. The gun tends to push into your hand so muzzle flip is reduced. A very accurate gun.

The downside is that the fixed barrel transfers heat to the frame right where your trigger finger will be. Mine does not heat up until I've fired 80 or so rounds fairly quickly but others have said they get heat in 30 rounds of fast fire.

As to value. It only goes up. They stopped making them and a lot of folks still want one.

      Good luck

IMO the older HK pistols like the P7/PSP and the P9s are handguns that you may pay more $$$ for but you will not need to buy anything to make the gun any better, unless you want wood grips. the P7 series uses a unique gas system to keep the slide locked until the chamber pressure is at a safe level to cycle, this does require some attention when cleaning and should be done regularly if shot much. The only downside to any aftermarket accesories is that the availability of good leather can be a problem, you will probably need to wait for a holster to be hand made for one of these pistols. Magazines from the factory are pricey but they will work, the several aftermarket mags are a crap shoot. I have a P9s in 9mm and eventually I would like to find a PSP to have as part of the collection.

I agree with all of the above. My old P7PSP shoots like it is brand new. I would also add that the P7's are little heavy for their size, but not much.

          Want a 9mm single-stack? You cannot go wrong with a P7.

Couple more additions to what other already said.

You can find P7 police trade ins for under 1K if you look long and hard. I bough both of mine for $800 here on calguns.
Size closing on sub-compact, but has 4" barrel.
It is heavy for the size..... compare to what? Plastic pistols? Then yes. Alloys? May be a bit, but not that much.
There are ton of people making holsters - but wait is long..... VERY..... even some Kydex take like 30 days? Good leather will make 10 weeks to infinity....
Magazines are $55, but sometimes are out of stock. However, they not THAT difficult to find.
It DOES feed EVERYTHING, hotter is better. However you can't use led bullets.
IMHO gun getting hot so fast has nothing to do with fixed barrel design. After all Maks are fixed barrels and nobody complains about them getting hot. I think it is due to gases being funneled toward the frame.

            For more info look here:

this board is somewhat slow, however has TON of good info, especially on cleaning and disassembly.

Uh... I know I will be roated at the stake for this but... I think that the P7 (and realted series) are really not that great. I have fired just about all of the series of guns and they are REALLY complicated guns to take apart and maintain. Most of the PD trade in guns have been raped for parts over the years as this gun is not supported by H&K.

Do I think that the gun is a beautyful work of art and would love to own one of every model? Yes, that's the H&K nut in me though.
Do I want to carry one and have my life depend on one? No way jose!

I miss my ol' P7. I need to get a replacement...

Is that not a great looking gun or what?

I have 7 of them. p7, p7m8, p7m13 never had a problem with any of them. If I am not carrying a 1911 I am carrying a p7. They do get hot if you shoot them a lot ( due to the gas system). I would bet my life on any of mine with out a doubt. Parts are a little hard to find, but not impossible. They are pricey but worth the money. Very accurate, will shoot anything, and easy to control. Holsters are easy to find ( Milt Sparks, Matt Del Fatti, Kramer, Bulman, etc, or kydex Comptac, bladetech, etc). Easy to clean, easy to take down, have extractors, but don't need them. What else do you need to know?

??? More info needed on this. My new Kimber 1911 is 3x more of a PITA to field strip and clean than my P7. I need a special tool (provided by Kimber) to disassemble the gun, not so with the P7.

In the 20 years I've had my PSP I think I have taken the striker assy apart 2-3 times to clean it. Every time I did so was a waste of time. It was always fine. Just pull it from the slide, wipe it off, and add a drop of oil.

I think he means a complete tear down not just a field strip. The P7 is the only gun i own where i have not completely striped it down to a bare frame and small parts. Its like a damn swiss watch under the grips.

Love my P7, great shooter but definitely not a combat handgun. It does well at what its designed to do, which is self defense and regular LE duty. Automatically safes itself, highly reliable in all conditions due to the blow back based design (will extract even without an extractor), great accuracy and easy to control.

There are almost no aftermarket accessories for it. Some grips and sights are about it. Holsters are not difficult to get just take longer as there is less demand. Magazines are on par with other HK mags for price.

First off,my only experience is with the P7M8 amd M13 not the P7. The M8 has a heat shield that does help but there is heat built up and it can not be helped.I am VERY IMPRESSED with the accuracy and the workmanship of these weapons. It is MANDATORY that they be cleaned after every use as the gas system can cause problems if pistol is dirty.Cleaning is simple and break down of weapon is easy.I enjoy the hell out of both the M8 and M13.

Get the P7M8 if you have the means. It's a great little gun and it's insanely accurate. It does cost quite a bit but when you take into account the craftsmanship and all the features it has, it's worth every penny.

I have the PSP and love it. As soon as I find 2 more mags it's my carry gun. At 7y I can drop a magazine into a 1.5-2" group fairly quickly. I'm most impressed with this gun.

Aftermarket is sights and grips. You won't need to change anything else.

2 P7m8's, and a P7K3 in .22 and .380 here. I really like the P7 series for it's accuracy, reliability and quickness into action. I have not found my primary P7m8 to be finicky about cleaning at all, I usually only do it after every two or three range trips although I lube it before each session. I always wanted a P7m13 till I held one, and didn't like how fat the grip was for my small/medium size hands.

They are heavy for their size, and do get hot when shot a lot.. I always bring other guns to the range so it can cool down after 80 rounds or so.

I have Nil wood grips on my shooter P7m8, primarily for looks; I shot it just as well with the stock grips. I would like to put night sites on it though.
