    Strayer Voigt Experiences

I have a Strayer Voigt frame that I've had sitting on the shelf for the past 10years Boy does time fly...

Anyhow, I've been debating on building it or go the easy route and pick up a 1911 by Kimber or Wilson Combat. I know they are completely different guns but that was an alternative.

The SV is going to be expensive to build and I thought of bringing it to Kodiak Precision. However, Don's rates are pricey. Not sure what configuration I want to build it into except for that it is going .40cal. I would like to get into competitive shooting in the future but don't want to build it into a full blown race gun. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Easy answer for you and not too pricey. www.davesmetalworks.com in Covina. Master gun smith and had built a few SVI's for me. Great work Great prices and Fast turnaround. Build a limited gun it will cost much less than an open gun.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Holy smokes... I didn't know that SVI has SS grips. I always felt the polymer grips were a little on the large side for my hands. Kind of like I was along for the ride, not like a regular single stack 1911 that feels just right. Nice...
Now more choices to confuse me This one aesthetics is pretty clean.

I'm still quite the noob when it comes to custom pistols. Is Brandon Strayer the usual gunsmith that builds the pistols?. Seems like a real privilege to have a family member build your pistol. It also seems quite pricey too, but then again if you want to play with this level of craftsmanship you have pay.

If I remember Brandon built your pistol right? I remember it was quite nice. Any pics?

          Thanks Again

              Thanks

Thanks adiksaputok and Randy for your help and the contacts. JV Dynamics puts out nice work from the pics. I guess the smart thing to do is to frequent the competition forum more often and learn some more.

Perhaps attending some local competitions will better help me decide what type of SV to build. Hopefully I can see which category best suits my interest and ability. I am pretty clueless at the moment what the different classes are, modified, standard, limited?
Also the 3gun competitions look quite appealing as well. But I AFAIK it's not IPSC?

Anyhow, thanks again guys. Also if you have any other links or info I'd love to read them.

No worries. There are a number of gunsmiths that can build a gun off that frame. Check out brianenos.com. Lots of USPSA discussion going on there.

Here's a bit of useless information Mike Voigt from SVI pistols shoots for the STI team and has nothing to do with his name sake. I have no idea why.

Eric there is a pistol match at Lopez canyon the forth Sunday of the month. I think the city is Sylmar.

There is a 3 gun match this month in Piru the 3rd Sunday. You are welcome to come out to either and participate or watch. You might find it informative. If I can help you shoot me a PM.

I'd take building up a SVI frame over a Kimber any day of the week.
