    CZ 75 Design

Hey calgunners, have a question that I've been thinking about for a while. I notice a lot of foreign firearms companies (Sphinx, IWI, etc.) use the CZ design when they go to make their handguns. Why is that? Does it have to do with the CZ 75 being so prolific or is it something else?

I believe it mostly has to do with patent stuff. When they were originally designed they were unable to file for a patent for several reasons. As such, it was free to be copied at will, and has by many-a-company. I'm sure it helps that the design is a good one.

"The CZ 75 was identified by the Czechoslovak military early in development as a possible replacement for the then-current-issue CZ Model 52. Because the new handgun had potential as a military project, the decision was made to keep the patents filed for the design “classified.” As undisclosed state secrets, the patents were only valid inside Czechoslovakia."

It's for the good of the proletariat. Patents only create licensing fees which increase the price of goods. Communism ftw on that one.
