Best home defense handgun (for my situation)?

Ok, sold my snubby. Didn't completely make my list for home defense or carry (wife and I using Shields). Right now, my circa 1985 Model 10 is in it's place for home defense, but I don't want it to get jacked in a burglary. I'd rather it be in the big safe.

    Here's my situation:
    1. 20 y.o. at home has key to gun lock. Completely trustworthy.
    2. 17 y.o. twins. Almost ready to give combo to gun. Trustworthy.
    3. Though they are experienced, I want a no-brainer gun. Easy to aim, operate and fairly safe for all users.

    Guns I am considering:
    1. SDV9E, has the New York trigger. Less chance of accidental discharge than with a lighter trigger.
    2. Any .357 with 4" barrel and 6 shots like the Model 10.

What would you buy? Something different? Want to spend about $700 or less.

Good Revolver = less brains in case of failure

    S&W 686+ = 7 shots
(Was it 5 shots or 6? Doesn't matter)

    GP100, also use as hammer

What about a Sig? A 9 will be easy for them to shoot. Leave it in DA and it will be very safe and no safety to accidentally leave on. Now the Sig P226 is great but if the price tag is too much look at the Sig SP2022.
History can repeat itself, and it will soon. And when it does, it won't be the North and South. It'll be the "US Government" and the TRUE American people fed up with the Governments insidious ways, fueled by determination to see this Country return to its former glory.

In before all the glock suggestions..hahaha

But seriously, glock 19 for the size and ease of use for the kids. Also training with it and getting familiar with it is highly suggested.

They can shoot, 3 lb. trigger makes me nervous with teens anyway.

I'd either do a .38 with a 4" barrel and +p HD loads, or a 12 gauge pump with low recoil loads.

I think it really depends on the size and shooting ability of the people that are going to be shooting.

I might also consider a 20 gauge if the people were of smaller stature. Don't go with the "you don't need to aim a shotgun" B.S. though. You absolutely DO need to aim a shotgun, especially at self defense ranges. Put that front sight on center mass, and pull the trigger. Actually of all of them a good 20 gauge might be the best pick.

If you're into revolvers, go with Gary's suggestion. The S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 are both great. I own both. I actually shot them both yesterday at steel targets. I was practicing my double action shooting, and I seem to shoot them both about the same.

The GP100 is cheaper and you can find a lightly used one in the CalGuns marketplace with regularity. If you get one, I suggest dry firing it in double action about 1,000 times to smooth out the trigger.

The 686 is a more nicely finished gun, and you can a 7 shot version which is kind of cool. The cost is higher than the Ruger though.

Whatever you get is going to be a compromise you're not going to find one gun that fits five people perfectly

I used to use shotgun for main HD, but Glock or Sig p320 now due to multiple doggies in my house. Don't want to hit my dogs accidentally with buckshot and be able to hold onto my dog with one hand if I have too.

GP100- as easy as it gets.

I have the sd40ve and love it. Very simple gun. Also, no safety to hassle with in a situation where forgetting could cost your life.

Get a Glock and switch the factory connector to the (+) connector with 8 lbs trigger weight.
