    1911 22lr conversion kits

I'm thinking about getting a conversion kit to use on one of my 1911s, anyone have any experience with these? do they work good? If so what brands ? Are they hard on the frame?

I had the Kimber version, used it on my GoldMatch II with no issues. Later sold it for what I paid for it and then bought a GSG1911-22. No more conversion kits needed.

For the price of a kit, you can get the whole thing with the GSG. Supposedly the GSG are made by the same outfit that produces the 1911-22 for Sig. And yes the Sig 1911-22 mags work in the GSG.

Check my YouTube channel. I compared the GSG and the Nelson Custom units.

I don't anticipate any problems with frame battering, the .22 is so anemic that the slides are aluminum and/or segmented to cycle properly. No issues on mine.

Check out the Jonathan Ciener conversation kits. I hear they work well and are well made.

I and my son have Kimber's, good accuracy and function for a decent price.

I have the older Advantage Arms slide and it's been great so far. Had to use an 18lb hammer spring to allow the slide to cycle correctly though. No issues after that. Worked out fine as the frame it's on will only be used with that slide. Plus it holds the slide open after the last round unlike some kits out there.

I had an advantage arms target version. Great kit and was stupid accurate. It was reliable as long as ammo velocity was ~1200fps. Regret selling it

I've owned the Kimber x2, Advantage Arms, Marvel V1 and V2, Tactical Solutions, and I want to say 2 others that I can't remember.

Kimber was the least finicky and the closest to standard 1911 operations.
Marvel V1 was by far the most accurate.
Advantage arms is a great budget kit with the ability for the slide to lock back.
Marvel V2 was one of my favorites, but it is picky about ammo/mags.
I now only own the Tactical Solutions kit. I find it to be a good balance between the kimber and the marvel kits, it has fiber optic sights and a rail. I may pick up another kimber kit as a training aid for new shooters, but I'm happy with my TacSol.

I would stay far away from Ciener.

His CS is so bad that he was actually arrested for fraud a few years ago. The charges were dropped, but the problems continued.

FWIW, check out Gun Broker frequently, with what ever kit you choose. I got a Kimber kit with FOUR mags in very good condition for $200. The three extra mags alone go for $75 or so. Great deal.

I liked the Colt .22 conversion unit. It was extremely reliable. Good luck finding one...probably a lot of $$$

I see them on ebay and gun broker regularly. Unfortunatly, the seller usually parts out the kit, so you would have to make sure and buy every part. I kinda hate them for that. A lot of these sellers are selling the box and paperwork in a separate auction, so it WAS a nice complete kit.

                            Had the following:

                            Kimber
                            Marvel
                            Advantage Arms
Ciener (they made Kimber's kit back then)

None of these were 100% reliable even with recommended ammo, but if I had to choose one with the best balance between accuracy and reliability, it would be the Advantage Arms. I have since sold all of them. I reload so I just shoot 1911s in 9mm mostly.

I still have one AA kit, for my Glock 17. Have been reliable since day one with several ammo I tried, even some sub sonic ammo. I use that to get my friends introduced to shooting. The fatter grip of the Glock actually makes them flinch less, and yes, even .22s can cause new shooters to flinch, thought they do tend to get over that quick and proceed to cost me a lot of money in ammo...
