Yep, 1911's or BHP's are the way to go -- get the 1911 in 9mm -- it's a hoot. I love my SAO 220, though -- very comfortable gun to shoot.

1911 and variants by far the most common with the most variety, pats, calibers, options, etc.
X5 is an incredible gun. A nice CZ, witness, P9 can be realy sweet, especially in the witness competition frame. TThese guns and the classic Browning Hi_power probably have the best ergo's of the steel framed guns. Some places (like IDPA make the M&P shoot in the single action class too, but I don't consider these true single actions since they are striker fired.
A little rarer but realy sweet is the S&W 945. There is also the 952. Both pricey, but tack drivers.

Hi-Powers are also an option for a 9mm. You could also find 9mm 1911s if you really look hard enough. There's also a CZ that comes in a single action variety as well.
