any downside to upgrading trigger in Glock or m&p?

I've always wanted to upgrade the triggers on some of my polymer pistols, but I've always been skeptical that the upgraded trigger somehow might not match the reliability I get with the stock triggers in the glocks and m&p

i guess I'm just asking what the disadvantages of these upgraded triggers are..

if they hinder reliability even a tiny bit, I will probably just leave the stock triggers in since i'm proficient enough with them and don't mind them...i just want to upgrade because i enjoy the tinkering

Depends on what kind of upgrades you're talking about. APEXing any standard M&P is definitely an improvement in my book. As far as a Glock, I've only polished stock parts and added OEM minus connectors.

It is wise to tinker with range guns, not defensive guns. A gun is only under warranty with the original OEM parts; modifications or aftermarket parts void the warranty.

If you go too light in a Glock the trigger safety no longer works. Like with competition spring kits, they say when you buy them "for competition use only" for a reason. But with a - connector and competition springs you can get the trigger pull crazy light. 2-3lbs.

I personally just run a oem -connector and a .25 cent polish. around 4.5lb pull with no issues. 13,000 rounds.

        Don't know jack about M&P's.

Early M&Ps had horrible triggers. They were inconsistent, dull feeling reset and gritty. The newer ones are better, but folks tend to buy custom sears and trigger to get that nice tigger action.

I put a powder river kit in my XD and it works flawlessly...and feels much better than the stock trigger.

YMMV, but if it doesn't work out, you can always switch back to the stock trigger.

Some aftermarket triggers bypass Glock safeties.

Only ones I'd personally run are the SSVI, Agency, and Robar/Glock Kraft triggers as they retain the drop/striker safety. There may be others but these are the only ones I know off.

Buy quality guns from quality manufacturers and their OEM pro shops and you won't need to worry about upgrading or warranty coverage.

Biggest downside is safety if you lighten the trigger. However, if you practice enough with it, you minimize accidental discharge. You just have to be EXTRA careful when putting your finger on the trigger. My first trigger job was lightened on my stock CZ SP-01 to 3# and I did accidentally discharge the gun unintentionally a few times but I learned how to handle it after taking it to the range a few times.

Funny that this is what I've always heard too. I have a newer M&P 45 with all the upgraded parts and the trigger still sucks IMO. Gritty and crunchy. I've gotten used to it just fine but it'll never be quite on par with my stock Glocks.

Even my M&P 9L performance center's trigger is nothing to write home about... Its not bad but not great either. No reset at all.

Obviously I could Apex them but I'm used to them now and have other use for the funds.

I've upgraded most of my M&Ps with Apex parts and they are phenomenal...trigger, sear, reset mechanism, ultimate striker block, etc. Best trigger out of all my pistols.

For range gun purpose only... probably no downside...
For duty carry or HD.... might want to keep it factory setting.

Glock trigger safety is a myth.

Go too light and you'll have concerns about light strikes on factory ammo, since part of a full Glock and M&P trigger job is putting a lighter striker spring in the gun.

Would take away that "defensive gun" out of the question.

Modified both my glocks with Zev tech trigger kits. Love em.

I had a minus glock connector and Wolff trigger spring in my g19 and love it.
