Great gun there and thank you for sharing.

Thanks, guys. Good thoughts all - and kinda sums up where I'm at. One other choice is to send out for a serious custom job to someone like John Harrison or Heirloom, but that's a 5+ year wait and my shelf life may not exceed that of the pistol.

by the way, the rails are pristine.

And yes, I have a shooter or two. Gov't. model from 195x and a 1951 Commander - lots of fun.

And I'm sorry to hear about selling a new unfired firearm to pay for a divorce. That stinks.

Nice! My 1976 Combat Commander was carried for many years, and it shows. Has old school Wilson Combat sights installed. I removed all the surface rust, and had old Jim Hoag give it a reliability tune-up.

I would never shoot that. What a find. Get a used 1911 here if you want to shoot one. I would bet you would never find one like that again. That's amazing.

In all seriousness, what's that gun worth $1500? maybe $1700?

well, without a time machine, it's difficult to go back to the 70's so my advice is to save it for your personal collection or sell it to a collector that appreciates the preservation of history.. should be able to fetch enough from a NIB sale to fund a really nice shooter + fees and room for ammo

I have very similar feelings as the OP about guns and I'm actually in the same position with a gun I bought nib from 1971.. I'm considering selling it now as the responsibility of preservation is more than I'm comfortable with and I really enjoy shooting all of my guns, even if only a few rounds occasionally..

some gun porn just for gp

NIB unfired 1971 Ruger 10/22 SP [sporter] last year of the finger groove

more on topic, not new or unfired 1976 Colt CLW shooter for sure
I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it

I know the feeling OP i have a unfired 1911 colt 38 super 1 of 500 gold cup, national match, match target that ive had since the early 90s. still cant bring myself to fire it and a COLT stainless 1991A1 i bought new in 95 still in wrapper and box. hard decision to fire or not to fire when you have other 1911s you can use.

Exactly. I have one a couple older Commanders, and luckily they were not new when I got them (a 9mm and a .45 from 1951 that are only about 800 serial #'s apart from one another). I sent them off to the "spa" and love them - and take them out for a spin. Just can't bring myself to do that with this one...

Meh, assuming you would put it away, you might regret never shooting it (but then again almost every 1911 shoots about the same except for custom guns.
Then again you might regret shooting, becuase you might find a big spender willing to buy it off of you and there could have been your retirement.
Then again it doesnt matter, nothing matters.

If i want a beater i would buy a new colt or springer, and put that gun away.
