which one would you get for uspsa and 3 gun and just plain shooting fun at the range.

What caliber would you choose 9mm or 40SW...I do not reload

For range fun I would go: STI Tactcal SS 5.0 9mm (with a threaded bull barrel if not in CA).

But I prefer SS over DS...

Executive is a hardchromed Edge with a FO front sight.

Folks will say .40 for USPSA, but doesn't matter if you can shoot AA. If you miss alot, go .40.

If I did not reload, I would get the 9mm edge to shoot both 3 gun and USPSA. You do get more scoring points for .40 but the 9MM is more manegable and the better you get, the less you will be worried about shooting major or minor.

Edge in 9mm as cheaper to shoot. I have an STI in 9mm and love it. Plus quality 1911 in 9mm are rare to find so you could resale for more of a premium imho.

AA - double alpha hits on the targets. People go .40 with these guns for major power factor. Scoring in limited division (which these guns are geared toward) leans heavily in favor of those shooting major than those shooting minor.

It all depends how good you are, but the playing field is divided into:

Classification Bracket Percentages
Grand Master 95 to 100%
Master 85 to 94.9%
A 75 to 84.9%
B 60 to 74.9%
C 40 to 59.9%
D 2 to 40%

A grandmaster can use a 9mm and still beat a B class in the dust. Max Michel can use a Sig P320 in 9mm and still kick my arse while I'm shooting a $5K SV Infinity Sight Tracker in 40 S&W. Since GMs compete against other GMs they are more than likely shoot a gun in 40S&W with all the bells, whistles and race tricks.

I've got a performance edge from Brazos customs. Hadnt shot it yet. But it feels awesome. Go with the executive. That hard chrome is beautiful.

The slide on an Edge feels like it rides on silky ball bearings. Ridiculously smooth.
