[QUOTE=mando.199413;18021156]Nice. How long have you had it? I've never shot a .380, how's the recoil? Only reason I'm asking is because I want my girlfriend to learn how to shoot a handgun.

I have had it for a little under 3 years, some people say it is snappy, but I have never noticed it. My father has a Browning BDA 380(closed slide version) that I would shoot growing up, so maybe I am used to some of this so called snappiness. That being said I took one of my friends out shooting a couple of weeks ago and she loved the Cheetah and was extremely accurate with it.

    Best,
    Chris

I have an 84FS and love it. I have 2 other .380s, a Walther and a Bersa. Out of the 3 the 84FS is the smoothest shooter. I have been shooting it weekly for 6 months with all types of ammo, and have never had an issue.

            Very smooth shooter.......

However, very big for a .380. Sold mine because it was too fat for my wife's hand. Have you looked into Bersa? Also a soft shooting .380 at about half the cost.

              Some points not yet mentioned:

The Beretta 84FS is pricey obviously, but on the flip side of that if you decide to sell it down the line it has great resale value.

Something to like about it is the frame mounted safety (vs slide mounted safety on the 92FS, up is fire) - which is also a "down is fire" type safety similar to the 1911.

The main thing I hate about it is the magazine disconnect - which is a show stopper for some.

              Good luck!

You may also want to check the Beretta forum. Lots of info about the 81 series in the FAQ, and the 84/85 are frequently discussed with tips about recoil, racking the slide, etc.

Yes, racking the slide when I first got it was difficult. Either I have become stronger, more adept, or it has loosened up after 6 months...

It's one of the guns I bring for new shooters, same with the 87 Target.

We also have both the blued and nickel in stock $649/724

Far too common of a mistake, getting a small gun for a new shooter. Little guns can be very uncomfortable to shoot, so snappy it can be very hard to control which can be scary, and almost always harder to shoot well. Fastest way to turn off a new shooter from wanting to ever try it again.

A .22 or a full sized 9mm is a much better choice. You can pick up a .22 revolver for < $200 and even if a new shooter can't hit the broad side of a Buick with it, it's fun to shoot, easily controllable and not scary.

I would say get a full sized 9mm for shooter graduating form 22lr. My little ones love the Glock 17

i've gotten a lot of mileage out of my 84F

used to be my carry gun when i was traveling in the mid 90's...granted, there are much better choices now for carry, especially in the 9mm variety...back then there wasn't the type of selection in small 9mm firearms like today so a .380 was the way to go

many first time shooters i take to the range start out on this firearm, i've even had a few offers for it...it's not for sale
