Does Cerakote improve the resale value?

Generally and specifically ... so actually two questions.

Let's take a Top End pistol like a P30, LNIB
If you Cerakote it just to coat it, have you affected the resale? Up or down?

Next question - same handgun, but some wear and scuff marks
    Cerakote before trying to sell?

I realize it's ultimately an 'eye of the beholder' sort of question so there can't be "the" answer
The problem with our legislature is NOT that they hate guns. The problem is that they hate the people who don't hate guns.

I wouldn't buy a gun that's been cerakoted by someone else. Much prefer them in their original configuration, scratches and all.
    **** your feelings!

I think it lowers value to most people. Certainly would not improve it.

Depends. In general, I say no to cerakote. Keep it stock. However, I've had a bare lower and lc9 slide sprayed. I wanted to protect the aluminum and not have it so shiny. The slide kept rusting so it was necessary.

Any alteration I had done to my firearms has been for my satisfaction. I've not sold a gun after buying it nor bought a gun for its resale value.

It lowers the value of expensive guns.

It does nothing for cheap guns.

                It makes the owner happy.

If you do have any Cerakote or gunsmith work done always keep the receipts. This will show potential buyers were work was done if you were to ever sell it.

It will mostly depend on who your target audience will be.
I am in a gun shop every day during the week. Overwhelmingly the clients that come here have no idea what is cerakoat.
The audience here on this forum and others are typically more informed or more passionate about firearms. This group is the minority as it relates to what frequents gun shops.
So members here get exposed to a variety of refinished firearms.
LNIB should always stay this way if considered a desirable handgun.

So if selling using the net, original condition may be best.
If selling on consignment at a shop, you may be more successful with it refinished.
Given it has been professionally applied and most would consider it attractive looking.

All refinish jobs drop the value...

Just like a car that has been in a wreck.... What happened to it where it needed to be repainted?

Was it a great repainting job or a WECSOG / shade tree mechanic repair job

I don't get repainting my car.... For a cool custom color...

I don't get repainting my gun...unless it is one that rusts on me... Or one where I have worn the finish off.....
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I might pay slightly more than market value for a gun that was colored in the exact way I wanted it. However most of the time you are narrowing your buyer's market with each additional nonstandard feature.

Even if someone does appreciate it you'll never get back the money you've paid to have it professionally done, in my opinion.

A great many of the modifications that are done to “improve” a gun do nothing to increase value, and often time decrease value, except of course in the eyes of the owner.
