They are fun, accurate and affordable.

S&W Model 29 or 629 is a better gun fit and finish but are much more expensive.

I don't have a Tracker, but we do own a blued Taurus M44 with a 4" ported barrel. Bought it used from a range that was going out of business. Never had any problems with it, nice single and double action trigger, nice adjustable sights, more accurate than I am. Fit and finish is very nice; it came out of the range with a tight cylinder, no timing issues, and looking new. Recoil is very manageable. That porting is loud, but it works.

It's a heavy, reliable beast that is an occasional hunting and hiking companion.

I've also heard about spotty Taurus QA/QC. We own two revolvers from them, the M44 and a stainless 4" .357, and have no problems to tell about. IMHO check it out carefully before you buy, and you should be ok.

          Not a fan of porting

My buddy has a 3" M-29 Smith. Shot it once without ears on. Talk about loud.
          It mitigates recoil, but wow!

I had a ported tracker in 357. Both a ruger and smith will be better quality for sure, there is no arguing that, but you can get a tracker for pretty cheap which is why they are a good deal. I have also read a lot about Taurus QC but FWIW, mine never had any problems and always went bang. Overall, I'd say go for it if the price is right, and it really has to be, because if you're going to spend anything near ruger or smith territory you might as well get one of those.

I would personally invest in a S&W or Ruger.
Taurus has good ideas with poor manufacturing. I have owned (3) different Taurus revolvers, varying dates of manufacture. All of them developed problems. Broken firing pin on a low round count .38 snub nose, cylinder lock up when trying to shoot an all steel .357 snub nose. Light interment firing pin strikes on older .357 model 65. I fixed all three (either myself or through CS) and sold them.

Just two days ago a friend told me he was having problems with his .357 tracker. Cylinder yoke had "walked" forward, the cylinder was free spinning and would not lock and the part that indexes the cylinder to rotate it was stuck down. He had five spent cases and a live round still in the cylinder because it would not open. Found that the part of the problem was the screw and spring loaded pin that holds the yoke in place had somehow came off during recoil and was allowing the yoke to move forward. I ended up making it safe and fixing the problems, but cant guarantee it wont happen again.

Magnaporting no bueno for me since I shoot mostly cast bullets. But if you need a smaller, less-expensive package which will be carried or stored mostly and shot very little, you might be OK with Taurus. YMMV.

This 5.5 Ruger is admittedly heavy and bulky but gets the job done otherwise.

I had the m44 back in the mid 90s it was a 6 inch ported barrel and honestly it was a great gun.I had no troubles with it and was also very accurate.

Use to shoot it twice a week then slowed down when i bought my 1911 and then sold the 44 mag which i regret doing wish i would have kept it.

I've personally had more problems with S&W revolvers than Taurus revolvers. But maybe I've just been unlucky with S&W's.

I bought one used from a fellow Calgunner and it’s really a nice piece. It was almost new and the SA and DA action is pretty good. I like big bore SS revolvers and have Rugers and Smiths but wanted a lightweight gun as I knock around the Sierras a fair amount hunting, hiking, and dual sporting. I looked at the S&W 329PD but thought it might be a little light for serious 44 mag loads (I still will probably get one). I ran across this Tracker and it appeared to fit the bill at 34 oz and has smaller frame than my other 44s and 45LCs. I shot some Miwall 240gr lead 44s and recoil was very mild. I shot some Winchester 240gr hunting ammo and it recoiled a bit more but still not bad just a little tingly. I bought some of the BB 225gr +P lead free since we’ll all be getting the lead out soon (sucks) but haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. I say check it out good before you buy one and go for it if it's a good one.

It's priced at $329,00. Comes with original box. Looks like it is a decent deal compared to new.

I had one would not stay timed shaved rounds people standing next to me at the range complained . I would look at a Ruger Alaskan or something in Rivers line up .
