.300 BLK Sub-Sonic Thru 8" AR Upper

I do a lot of off roading in the desert north of PHX. In a period of 10 yrs or so (I've lived here 25 yrs), I've prevented at least 3 Hi-jackings that I'm aware of, by refusing to stop. Friends that have lived here even longer all have at least one story to tell about their close calls also. Old Timers, men and women, have told me to never go out there without letting someone know the general destination and return time. Sounds drastic I know, but still a reality.

I'm looking for a platform that will work well when deployed from a vehicle at somewhat close range, yet could still reach out to 100+ yds. I like the AR Pistol concept. I have used a friends 10.5" Aeroprecision-based 5.56 with Aimpoint PRO, Geissele SD3G trigger, SEI "Good Iron" brake and LOVE it. Suprisingly accurate, with NO recoil, but LOUD !! Even that combo is a bit hard to wheel around inside the cab, and the blast is massive.

I'm thinking .300 BLK sub-sonic (~1000 fps +/-) from an 8" barrel and some sort of Linear Compensator to re-direct the blast forward. Does anyone here have actual experience with a similar combo ?? It sounds good on paper to me.

But can you stay in the desert when you shoot out of your vehicle in motion, most other places they call that a drive by shooting. **

I like your line of thinking. I have also been thinking of what would make a good short barrel rifle for my truck in the Free State that I live in. .300 black subsonic would be kinder on the ears in a self defense shooting though that should be the last of my worries.

If I lived in Arizona that's the first thing I would buy. Hickok45 has a nice video on an SBR in 300 that is surpressed. Wow, you could really spend some money
Shooting that one....

But here we have limits, so I built this simple AR pistol with a 300 BLK upper.

300 BLK seems to run better in the pistol platform than .223.

In any case, this machine will reach out to 100 Yards quite easily. (The OPs requirement)

Limited to 10 round magazines. . But the red dot picks up the target
Pretty fast.

Where do you go that has all these hi-jackings? I do some light wheeling but out by Lake Pleasant and to the west of it to Vulture Mine. I was out shooting with my son a few weeks ago and 2 days later the news had a report about a burned body found about a mile from where we were shooting.

Back before Tonto burned out, there was a FR 42 (entry at Rattlesnake Cove at Bartlett) and FR 235 (Indian Springs Wash I believe it was called 1/2 way to Bartlett). Both have been barred and chained for about 10 yrs now. These incidents all occurred in this general area. Back then there was no patrolling by the green trucks way out there, It was the BEST extreme off-roading for a Cave Creek guy. People were living out there then, real trash-types.

To spare the gory details, each involved vehicles parked to block tight trails for no reason, and NO they weren't broken down. You could see they were expecting you to stop and dismount.

9.5" 300aac, with sup sonic hand loads and running with BRT linear comp. Very pleasant to shoot.

Go flash hider instead of linear comp. With the little powder in a 300 blk you will totally eliminate the flash and then there will be no concussion to redirect. I have found linear compensators the worst of both worlds.

Thanks, I already have an unused SEI Vortex FH with QD threaded 5/8 X 24 in the safe. I'll try that first.
