Picked one up after extensive research. This was used to replace an XD40 Tactical, two very different guns. This is coming from a person who has had lots of self-taught experience only. I really like the gun, simple and effective. I felt a DA/SA was safer than a Glock but with one less motion of a safety from a 1911 or Beretta. Smooth as butter and confident it will always work.
These are some things that I thought were right on the money with most reviewers and some things that I thought were may be overrated or exaggerated.
-Hard to find, had to order one from out of state. Finally found on tooeleshootingsupply.com for $570 delivered and used slickguns.com to find 01199 which is the California approved model. If you do order from out of state, have them send you the invoice, not the FFL pickup location. Almost never on Budsguns, gunbroker, gunsamerica... Took me 2 weeks of checking every day to find.
-Heavy, but not so much so. Having an aluminum frame makes it lighter than my sp101. But when compared to a G19 you can tell it's only slightly heavier.
-Accurate, it only has a 3.8 inch barrel but from my 7 and 10 yard groups I was averaging 3 inches. But I have yet to get used to it, only 50 bullets in.
My friend bought a G19 4th Gen and it was not as accurate, but I will say the G felt more natural in my hands and I could draw faster and on target.
-Ergonomics, I have medium hands and it filled it up. It could be smaller but I didn't have trouble releasing the mag or the slide. I may get slim grips if I decide to carry it. Decocker could be located better like the Sig but it is not something that has to be used constantly. You do have to reach just a little for the slide release, short thumb people will not like it.
-Reliable, nothing went wrong in the 50, let's hope it stays that way. On my XD it was failing to feed initially but 500 rounds later it stopped.
-Lower profile slide does make it more difficult to wrack but not impossible, more practice? I don't think my skills are there yet but when compared to the G19 or XD40 the recoil wasn't hugely better. Again, more practice.
-DA/SA feel. I was practicing DA and it didn't mess up my shots. Some reviewers say that it was gritty but I didn't feel it. The SA felt very light, the DA was very long.
Came from the box heavily lubricated, I couldn't wait to shoot it and didn't go home to strip and relube. Throws the brass diagonally up and sideways and a little forward for me, I only found 1/2 of the brass to reload. Compared to another person shooting an XD9 beside me, his were all behind him.
