    1911 refinish

I'm looking into refinishing my sw1911 because I don't like the finish. Very thin bluing and I have sweaty hands... so that means a lot of salt and rust. I want a tough finish that is rust resistant. What have you guys done to refinish your guns? or who have you guys used to refinish your guns?

I Hear IonBond DLC is an awesome finish. A number of custom smiths are using it. There's info on the Louder Than Words site.

IonBond is really good, but it's pricey.

The nice thing is you can get it to look like a dark bluing.

ummmm... I'm what you would call... cheap. So I'm not exactly looking for the best finish, just something to keep my gun from rusting when I touch it. I was thinking about duracoating it myself... but I don't have access to a blast cabinet. My slide is polished and I don't think any spray on finish will stick without abrasive blasting.

If you want the toughest finish spend the money on Ionbond.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Melonite is also very durable (it' like the Glock tenifer finish) but I'm not sure it's a whole lot cheaper than IonBond.

It was ugly at that point. This was a torn up Remington that had been poorly nickle plated in the 50's. The leaf spring was rusted to the frame and the whole thing was just a mess. A client won it in a poker game during a tour in Nam. He wanted it to function again and look like the jungle BDU's.
