People and Glock 36 Failures

I hear SO much about how bad the G36 has failures.

I just picked up a used G36 that I paid little money for, and it was implied the previous user had issues with the gun.

It looks to be barely used, and is a July 2013 production model.

With the 2 included magazines, today, I brought 100 rounds of WWB, and 100 rounds of Federal Aluminum.

The first 2 shots had premature slide lock. Okay. I stopped shooting and examined my form. My immediate suspicion anytime there is premature slide lock is support hand placement.

So I lowered my support hand, and then shot 198 rounds trouble free using both magazines.

I never have this issue with my other, thicker Glocks. I am assuming that the thinner profile of the 36 makes it much more likely for your support hand to creep up that much more and interfere with the slide stop.

I'm also assuming that all these people that complain about the G36 are having the exact same problem, and everyone that has no issues with the 36 have discovered to stop thumbing the slide stop.

It's also an accurate little bugger, and soaks up recoil pretty well. At 25 yards, on my first time shooting this gun, I was getting a pretty happy 5" group with aluminum. Not too bad.

Loved my 36 whole I had it. Never had any failures that other people talk about either. Only reason I sold it is because I could never get a comfortable grip that didn't result in the slide taking a little chunk of thumb skin.

I did have one problem - my main hand fingernails were an issue. They dug into my support hand palm pretty bad.

Took a break, trimmed and filed down my fingernails, and no more problem.

Interestingly enough, the gap between the bottom of the grip and the giant mag baseplate didn't give me a pinch like i got with the G30.

Only reservation about this weapon now is 6 rounds. Lol, pretty weak.

Also, gonna have to try some JHPs.

Final verdict will come after that happens.

Same thing happens to me. To be honest, it hurts to shoot. I bought one extended pearce grip for it and that allows me to shoot pain free.

its kind of weird how a few mm's here and there can change the dynamics of how a firearm performs.

G26 with pearce grips pinch me. G30 with factory 10 rounders pinch, factory 9's don't.

G36 with factory 6's don't pinch. Haven't tried the pearce but don't think i need them.

i like the pearce grips on the g36, adds just a tiny bit of length to the mag where my hands fit nicely on the entire grip/mag

I don't think you will either. Get used to shooting the gun just a bit more. I got some of the extensions with some of the mags when I got my used 36, and I have found I now like the un-extended mags better.

I guess that I thought the gun would be a handful... at least before I shot it and found out what a soft shooter it was. No issues at all, and my hands are XL-XXL as far as glove size.

Absolutely no issues with mine as well. She is definitely a keeper for me. And to think that I had such low expectations for the gun when I got it as part of a trade. Boy was I wrong!

I would rather carry the the unfoulable G36 that is 6+1 than a 3 inch 1911 than a full size 1911. What's that 10+1 if you buy the extended mag. I shot 200 rounds out of my new G36 without a hickup. My 1911 Smith would never get that far. Even though I do love it. My XDS is 5+1 with the feel of a 1911 except for the safety is not on the side only on the grips. But in coceal mode its only 5+1 but also very rellable until you heat it up or use real dirty ammo. I'm not a glock head but if I needed a gun that I.
could rely on it would be a , Glock or or almost any Smith. Just my two cents

I recently picked up a G36 that looked like it had maybe 100 rounds through it and had pretty much the same experience. First two shots resulted in casings getting jammed. I made sure I was firmly holding the G36 with two finger grip and soild hold with my support hand and fired of several more magazines without issue. I have not shot one of these for maybe 10 years and was a little surprised at the recoil, but I don't consider this an issue that can't be remedied with more shooting. No regret in picking this up.

i have the feeling the "thumbs forward" tacticool phenomenon has caused a lot of "failures", especially with new shooters.

The failures most people talk about from the G36 were directly related to the differences between the old style mag followers and the newer style. I had both guns and the only difference between older and newer was the mag followers.

The old ones had no relief cut in the follower so they would push the slide lock up harder, causing the slide to lock back prematurely. The newer followers have a notch cut out so the slide lock isn't forced up by the follower as much. I had malfunctions with my old gun and mags until I tried it with the newer style magazines and it worked flawless.

I don't know why so many people complain about the stock mags pinching their little pinky. I have medium hands and never once had the "pinky pinch" issue. Maybe it only happens to those with "large manly hands". You guys need to man up. 💪👻

The grip used by virtually every USPSA and IDPA champion these days.

I'm not trashing it; I'm just saying that every new person who picks up a pistol uses it and probably mashes their support thumb onto the stop, thereby inducing failures.

Pretty sure the pros don't do that part.
