OK... first off the intention of this thread is not to start a Glock vs ??? flame war.
Nor is it to start a war between those who prefer their glocks oem stock vs those who seek a better handling/performing gun through the aftermarket.
This is for those who are not shy with the aftermarket or mods of their Austrian designed "Perfection" advertised guns.
Now, with that said on to the topic of discussion:
Many say that doing a $.25 trigger job is fruitless and to just go put rounds down range to smooth things out over time. Others, swear by the trigger bar connector contact point polish, along with the safety plunger polish.
In looking at most aftermarket Glock triggers; from the low end OC Customs on up to the high $ ZEV's, TTI, APEX, etc... All of them have polished trigger bars. Why? It surely must provide some benefit beyond looking shiny or being easier to clean. ??? Most of them are using oem trigger bars to comply with competition rules, but they are de-burring and polishing then charging big $!
The stock parts are stamped steel with sometimes sharp edges and burrs. I think that's why Glock triggers are so hit and miss (even when broken in). I own several Glocks and it is easy to notice the differences in pull length and smoothness between them.
A recent failure of a stock oem connector with maybe 1k rounds through it has brought me back to looking at the trigger bar and polishing it more carefully. Mine had a new trigger bar, connector and spring installed by the Glock armorer at a GSSF event. Since then its been cleaned a few times and all lube points handled, but not enough rounds to warrant a complete strip. Until after 2 recent range trips, and a terrible trigger feel on the second day.
After a thorough cleaning upon examination you can clearly see that a burr on the edge of the trigger bar wore off the plating on the connector. It even bunched it up into a lil "mountain" on the surface of the connector. In looking at the trigger bar at the end which contacts the connector with a magnifying glass you could clearly see burrs and imperfections all along the contact point. There were also those same imperfections and a nice burr on the trigger bar where it contacts the safety... that burr was marring the edge of the safety plunger.
So (NOT REMOVING ANY MATERIAL) only smoothing the surface and burrs via 1000 grit stone, I smoothed out the burrs and then polished the edges on low speed with a dremel and mag wheel polish. It is sooo much smoother now IMO. I will be checking all my Glock trigger bars from now on!
Personally, I have had great success with smoothing the edges, de-burring, and then polishing the trigger bar in particular. And I've left others stock. I think, if done carefully (by hand or low speed dremel) it can help a trigger get to that 2k round (broke in) feel faster, It certainly helped smooth out my pull.
