    455 webley

I do not know much about these guns other than some general info. My grandfather told me he has one unfired and is trying to find "shims" for them so he can shot .45acp out of it. I can find .455 ammo well enough but is it true he can shoot both round or would it have required a rechambering. I want to try to find these shims but have had no luck, are they called something else? i did a search on gunbroker and gunsamerica for all variations of webley and a google search for webley parts but not much luck. any information is greatly appreciated.

the back story is that he purchased the gun at a california montgomery wards back in 1962 for $15. He lost the shims he said he got with it and never fired it because of that reason. thanks.

Check the cylinder and see if the rear was shaved off a few thousands of an inch. You can tell by looking at the markings to see if they are cut off. If so, the cylinder was shaved to accommodate .45 ACP. The "shims" he is talking about are probably half moon clips. Also, .455 can no longer be fired from a modified cylinder.

thanks, since i do not know the specific model I know this will be hard to answer, but any chance these will work?

i appreciate the help. My grandpa has been asking me if i can find these for him even though i doubt he will ever shoot it.

They will work and, in my opinion, are easier to use. It is particularly easier to unload the moon clips and I prefer them over the half moon ones.

Use lighter modern loads if it's a Webley Mk6. If it's an older Webley Mk1-Mk3, use only LIGHT handloads which approximate black powder loadings (The Mk1 and Mk2 are actual antiques and can be sold face to face!).. That's what they were designed for. It may not necessarily blow up, but if the frame stretches, you'll ruin the gun.

These are cheap, I mean inexpensive.

                and these are plastic,

Call the number and see if they have a size that will fit. They are easier to load and unload cases.
