    Hogue Fancy Hardwoods

I have been browsing these grips: https://www.hogueinc.com/grips/ruger...blackhawk/wood for my new model blackhawk. They look really nice compared to the matte black grips that it comes with. I am still not sure if I should stick with the traditional cowboy grips or look into these ones. Anyone ever try these grips before? My hands aren't small but they do look like really big grips.

I have Hogues on several revolvers. They are good quality. I also have a set of Altamont's on my NM Vaquero Bisley, and like them as well, good value and price.

Go to your local gun store and hold a GP100 Match Champion. It comes with them factory. At 5'8" I'm not huge and I find them to be very comfortable. If someone was willing to trade for the finger groove version I'd be all over it.

These are really pretty grips. I prefer Nil grips though.

I don't doubt the quality. But when it comes to classic single action revolvers, I personally prefer the look of the traditional grip panels. Anything else just doesn't look "right." I had a Super Blackhawk and tried the rubber Hogues on it. Comfortable, but looked hideous.

If you go with the traditional look, there are many options, including higher end craftsmen that will have you send in your frame for optimal fit. Cary Chapman made this pair from ram's horn.

Houge grips are manufactured in paso Robles!
If your ever in San Luis obispo county you should stop by the factory and beg for a tour, they also have a sweet pro shop

Yes, four of us got an unexpected tour last year, grant people.

The grips you linked do not look right on a SA. That said, I've had them on an older model 5 1/2" Super Blackhawk for 30 years...won't take 'em off. I have XXL hands and they fill them nicely.

I just sold one of these grips for a Colt Python to someone on Ebay.

I had them on a Python for a while. They are really substantial in substance and feel. They feel really good in the hand and make shooting a much more pleasant experience. They are nice grips. . . .

As you know the standard stock Python grips are very square-ish and blocky to the feel and not the best ergonimically designed grip out there.

I have small to med hands. The hogues worked good for me. Never was wild about the way they looked however.

I liked the Pachmayer finger groove combat grips with Colt medallion the best for a Python in the way the felt an, especially on a stainless one they looked great, but nothing looks better than stock grips on both the blued and the stainless versions of this classic Colt snake.

Can't speak to the Ruger SA Monogrips... but my S&W wood revo Monogrips are the thickest wood grips I own and certainly are a better fit for large hands.

OP those look like nice grips. I do agree with Scotchblade about traditional grips on classic style single action revolvers. I feel the same way. Even relatively inexpensive imitation ivory grips look nicer on a Bisley IMO than something with a non-traditional look.

Btw . . those ram's horn grips look very nice!

The factory and store in paso robles are awesome, I'd definitely recommend stopping by if youre in the area. I've found their fancy hardwooods to be both comfortable and functional.

these hogue pau ferro's aren't really that fancy but they came with the sig..

and they feel better and look better than the factory plastic..

I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it

The Hogue finger groove grips for the Blackhawk are really large if you have medium size hands.

I put a pair on a .357 Blackhawk and then used a Dremel to fit them to my hand.

They just don't feel right and I don't shoot the gun worth a darn. So the original grips I found were too short. The Hogues didn't help either with getting a good grip.

I'm now looking at a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips to help me shoot better.

I was able to fit a set to another Blackhawk and those feel good to me.

Avoid the finger groove grips as they prevent a proper hold for shooting and cocking a single action revolver. At least they did not work on my NMBH.

Thanks for all the replies guys, does anyone have an pictures of the Pachmayr's installed on their Blackhawk? I saw a picture of the grips, but none installed on a blackhawk.
