    Hk USP versus VP

Hey fellow HK owners, wondering if you provide your personal experience with your HK's if you have both.

I would like to purchase a 9mm but wondering if there was a huge difference between the two. Course would rather purchase USP because it's on roster and the better price. Based on what I see on the used market, seems the going price is $1200, which seems a lot but I get the whole supply and demand.

I've read about the changeable grips and new trigger, so is it worth the difference in price or is it all marketing? Lol

Just so you know, I also own CZ SP-01 and Sig 226 so looking to have another fun gun to the collection.

If you are looking to get just another fun gun then why a semi-auto? You already have two.

Get a revolver. Any Smith in .357 will do.

Or, if you are dead set on a semi, get a Glock and upgrade the snot out of it. There's some fun in that. Or a M&P 9 and drop a Apex trigger kit into it. Fun guns.

The USP or the VP9 are fine. I wouldn't pay more than $800 for a VP9 though. There is nothing magical about them.

Have vp9... I am used to shooting my Glock and Sigp320 so mag release of my vp9.... I need little more training, but being able to reduce the grip size on vp9 is sweet.

Trigger does feel nice thou... smooth as sig p320.

I'd stay with the same hammer fired system, HK USP. I own both but am bias on USP.

Both are great pistols. I prefer the VP9 because it is striker-fired and has better ergonomics (adjustable side panels and backstrap, and a lower bore axis). It feels great in the hand. The trigger is outstanding out of the box.

I like the USP a lot, too, and think it is a better pistol than the SIG P226. Multitude of trigger options, and you can carry it cocked-and-locked, and always fire single action. The double action trigger is long and heavy, but there is a match trigger upgrade available. The single action trigger is pretty good. The USP may be a more durable pistol, too. You cannot go wrong with either pistol.

Yes on trigger being nice straight from the box...

                HK USP + Match trigger.

It doesn't get any better than that. (1911 aside)

HKPro has a lot of great info.

I debated the two, but ultimate went with the USP.

                Worth every penny, very happy.

Anyone else here think the USP has better quality than the VP9? Something about that flimsy looking ambi slide release made me sell my VP9. If you need something striker fired for fun, I think you'll have a lot more options with a Glock. And as far as the changeable backstraps and grip, I never touched them because I have regular sized hands.

USP pistols feel a little too big for my hands. VP9 fits my hands very nicely. Besides, the trigger pull is the same from round 1 to round 15. I like my VP9.

Curious why the OP isn't considering the P2000.

I have the USPf .45 and P2000sk .40, each with the light LEM trigger. Silky smooth, 4.5# pull, crisp and short reset, and the same trigger pull with each and every shot. No safety lever and hammer-fired. Both carry 10+1 (P2000sk is standard as 9+1 but with the regular P2000 magazine is 10+1.)

I like each for their intended purpose. The USP full-size is at a disadvantage for concealed carry but a (very good) monster for home defense or as a truck gun when traveling. The P2000sk is very good at home defense and absolutely awesome as a concealed carry pistol. Both pistols have stellar reliability records.

but if you are bent between USP & VP9, personally I will go with the USP.

                        1. LEM trigger option
                        2. Depending on the size & length of your trigger finger, you might have the finger bite issue from the VP9 /HK45 type slide release. Something worth checking on before spending the $$$$$

XD tactical with a PRP trigger.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

I have owned a VP9 and sold it. I have several USP.
I have huge hands and the VP9 tail hook crowds my hands so didn't like the grip.
I never have had a complaint about the USP trigger but the Match trigger is available and definitely sweeet.
and I agree the P2000 is worth considering too.

I have a few HK's, the p30, USP, p2000 and Vp9 and the Vp9 is my favorite. I went shooting with a good friend a couple weeks ago and he shot mine and found one to buy last week. The grip is just like the p30 but your hand gets a lot higher up on the gun cause how much smaller the slide is in comparison. I found mine on here for 1,000 brand new 3 months ago. I would personally choose it over a usp. I hate the usp trigger too, I switched mine to light lem and plan on doing it to the p2000 soon.
