Mayb because people settle? Maybe because even with those features, the gun is still a fine gun? Maybe because it takes more effort (and possibly more money) to acquire a gun without them?

For example, I would like to avoid the lock. But the 686 SSR is a fine revolver that only comes with a lock. No choice really unless I get a different revolver instead.

Rhetorical Question Definition

I have hundreds of firearms and not one has the lock except a couple of Taurus firearms I got in very favorable trades or prices. I will not own such a S&W except maybe a 460 or the 38Super revolver. The Taurus revolver or rifle lock is not as obtrusive and doesn't bother me as much as a S&W.

I actually collect Smiths and the lock bothers me. I also don't like the SA ILS or the LCI on most guns depending how they are done. I do not have any Sig Sauers with it. I just seek out guns without features I dislike and I find them with patience.

You had a choice on the 617 they were made as prelocks. I waited and found a prelock 4in no dash for $425 no tax last year.

Because I'd rather not pay inflated prices for out of CA versions without those features since they have zero impact on shooting.

I lucked out and my SP2022 came to me with no LCI or MD, and an internal extractor. CA legal version but it looks really sleek. I guess SIG is shipping out both kinds and it's a crap shoot as to which you get.

But if I was looking at another new handgun that had those features? Not a deciding factor at all for me. As long as the LCI doesn't interfere with the sight picture.

The S&W 642 is available and on the list as a no lock version. Also you have the SAE loophole if you hate the lock that badly.
