HK SLIDE LOCK BACK FAIL SOLUTION? Maybe I found one.

Recently purchased a new HK P2000 v3 in .40s&w, and on my 2nd trip to the range, the slide no longer locked back after last round fired.

Examined the slide, and mags. Slide looked good, mags had scoring on the follower where the slide would "try" to lock on the empty mag. Mag had a bit of play if my grip was tight on the mag floorplate, and would prevent the slide from trying to hang up on the follower if my grip pressed down on the floorplate. If i kept upward pressure on the mag, there was a more positive engagement of slide on follower, thus the marring on the follower.

Went to calguns, and hkpro, and many members had the same issue. A lot of guys said the problem was caused by thumbing the slide release and that changing my grip would solve the problem. This didnt sit well with me as I know how to grip a pistol, so I examined my gun after a thorough cleaning, and found the position that the slide would to try to lock on the mag follower was a solid 3/16" behind the notch for slide release lever to raise and engage the slide.

I called HK, and was helped by a gruff and very terse (as I expected, because I suck, and they hate me) customer service agent who emailed me a service tag and shipping label to send my gun and all its' mags to HK for inspection. I anticipated a long turnaround and said goodbye to my 800 dollar pistol for an ambiguous amount of time.

The label they sent me was (surprisingly!) for overnigt Fedex.

I was at work the NEXT DAY (!) and my phone rang, It was Lyman from HK USA, he was one of the nicest guys Ive ever dealt with In any customer service aspect, informing me that my pistol had been repaired, that it would be sent back fo me the following day (again fedex overnight!) and apologizing for the defect asked if I'd like a free set of meprolight night sights installed and zeroed at no charge. HELL YEAH! Lyman explained that the problem was with the casting on the left side slide release and that the little ledge on the release (see pics) is often where they get a bubble in the mold and that he has seen the problem from time to time but infrequently. My new slide release lever is very nicely formed.

Lyman was a real nice guy, and the point of this post is to help all of you to find the trouble if your HK pistol is experiencing this issue. Refer to the pics and if your lever doesnt look like this, then you may have found your culprit. Reposted on Calguns and HKPRO.

    CHEERS.

*the free installed night sights I got from HK were a bonus and I make no assertion that anyone else will get free stuff. I dont want to get Lyman in trouble. Kudos to HK for AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE in this matter. Very pleased.

Great customer service. Exactly how every company should handle such issues.

When I read all the inter-Web crap about HK having poor customer service, I laugh. They've always treated me right. Glad to see everything worked out for you!

Yup. The problem with slide failure to lock back, having experienced it and therefore searched it on all the forums, I hope my post can help others with the same problem. The searchability of the issue was dodgy at best, my title hopefully sums it up succinctly.

You paid too much for that P2000. HK dropped the price to $649 last year

                      Op,
Are the pics of the "new" release or the one that was giving you problems?

Maybe that's why they gave him night sights?

Yeah yuk it up. 675$ +dros+tax and enough mags (if you can own a pistol with only two mags, more power to ya, I can not.)= >800$

Man, that's good to hear! Glad they fixed it. I wonder what Ruger says about 10/22 extractors...
