    Snub 38 Options

I'd like to pick up a Snub 38 as a house gun that my wife can use, and as an excuse to buy another gun.

I'm thinking Rossi or Ruger, as the price will fit my budget and they seem to have reasonable reviews. Detective Specials and Smiths are nice, but probably out of my price range. However, all reasonably priced options considered.

Oh, btw, I want something with a hammer.

I found this Armscor also, which appears to be on the approved list. Junk?

Ruger Sp 101 will do all you ask for a reasonable sum.

        I have a Taurus 85 in .38 special. 5-shot, handles +P ammo. Cost $300 - $400. I like it.

+1 on the Taurus 85. A fine little revolver for what you need it to do.
Dang, price has gone way up though. I think I paid $185 or so not to many years back.

My Taurus 85 shoots just as well as my S&W J frames. Watch the ads for a model 85 on the used market if cost is an issue.

              Air,
what is your budget range so we can better throw some ideas at ya?
are you looking for new only or will a quality used snub work too?

You might want to reconsider getting a snub if its purpose is home defense for your wife

Used or New. I'd like to keep the price around 300 bucks.

I had a Rossi model 461, 357 mag snub revolver. It worked really well and I regret selling it.

I'm kind of leaning toward a Rossi actually. But I have heard mixed reviews.

I would get that new ruger in .327 Federal Mag.. but otherwise I would go with a good Smith.

You'll have mixed reviews for almost any handgun.

Speaking from personal experience, I enjoyed the Rossi 357 mag I had. It went bang everytime I pulled the trigger, whether SA or DA. I shot 38 special, 38+P, and 357 mag with no problem. I've also got a S&W 642 airweight, but I've got to tell you I would prefer the Rossi.
