    CZ SP-01 Phantom

Yes yes we know it's not on the list (yet?), but I got a chance to manhandle one of these for some time the other day at Krausewerks (LE sales only). My opinion: if it were available to me I'd buy it then change the sights.

It accepts (without any problem) the usual 10-round magazines. The grip, with it's changeable backstrap, is very comfortable - the frame itself is so very identical in style to it's steel brethren as a CZ owner you're already comfortable with it. At first it feels a little topheavy but when you swing it up into the ready position it's right on target - that heavy is not a bad heavy, not uncontrollable. The new cut slide takes a little getting used to for gripping and breakdown but it wasn't too hard - just find new places to hang on is all.

I don't like that it has a decocker, it should have a manual safety like the Shadow but hey that's me - these guys are targeting LE agencies. The polymer frame though seems very thick & rugged, not some flimsy junk - solid.

Darn you rivvie, I'm envious. What are they asking for the Phantom?

I just like the sound of the name . . . Phantom.

No price was on the tag - I've seen this with LE sales a lot, they get a lower price than us mere mortals many times. MSRP is around $600 so I would expect a normal retail to be about $550 or so...

Happy new year! Really is a new year with you being the green eyed monster for semi autos, and another plastic one to boot. When you gonna sell some of those purdy S&Ws?

I have to admit I also couldn't resist playing with this gun at Krausewerks. It's one of the main reasons I've been following the NRF discussions.

I like the feel of it and prefer the decockers on CZ's. I'm not sure I'd take one instead of the steel SP-01 but I'd like one in addition. Definitely on my list for 2009.

Only plastic - I'm a CZ fan and have owned almost every model they make within reason. The only one I've kept right now is a P-01, which is my choice of house gun w/ a Streamlight on it. I don't collect semis the way I do revolvers - to me semis are just tools.

Are we sure this pistol is not on the list? certguns.doj.ca.gov lists a "CZ 75 SP-01 / Steel, Poly", with an expiration date of 1/31/09, which sounds to me like a CZ SP-01 with a steel slide and a polymer frame. If this isn't the Phantom, what pistol would this be?

Poly in that case unfortunately refers to the finish, CZ's "black polycoat".

Be careful Rivvie, try not to break this one, too.

Rivvie, Excuse me, but I'm such an ignoramous. What is a S&W 540?

If I wrote it I probably meant to write 547 and it's a typo -- one of those lovely 9mm blued revolvers with the funky custom extractor that requires no moons. trashman (I think it was him?) found one at a recent gun show I was at for a fantastic price, I'm sooo jealous.

I like the added weight of the SP01......but for those who dont.....then this is probably the gun to get......

                        If you're LE.
