BHP or Glock 17/19?

OK, the freaking 9mm bug is hitting me again as I only have a Makarov in the fold to fill the "combat handgun" niche at the moment and the necessity for a more versatile weapon is kind of knocking at my door. Besides, the Tracker needs another open carry sister.

Which is it, a BHP or a Glock 17/19? I could buy my brother's BHP (pretty nice, never uses it) but I like to keep my options open.

Given the choices, I'd go with the Browning Hi-Power because, well, it's a Browning Hi-Power.

However, if you were able to aquire the G19 and Beretta 92, I'd go for it. All three are great handguns.

Have you held all three? Personally I thik the BHP is one of the most ergonomic and well balanced pistols ever made. Blue steel and sex appeal.

Yeah, I am leaning towards the BHP myself, it truly is a sexy pistol. Good thing is that my brother isn't a shooter (I've only gotten him to shoot his 10/22 once and I had to beg him to buy that), he is "unloading" some of his lesser-used guns and I might snag it from him for a good price.

Glock 19 if it fits the hand well. You said a COMBAT handgun, not a "cool" handgun. The BHP is a wonderful gun, but Simple and always reliable win the day for a fighting pistol.

That being said if you have BHP preban mags and no Glock prebans, you might make another decision.

I sold my BHP this time last year and bought a G17. Why might one say?
I didn't like the following on the BHP
1. trigger action
2. slick front and backstrap areas
3. sharp edges
4. I sold it for $800 (LNIB)

I paid $475 for the Glock and have put close to 2k in rnds thru it without an issue. I've never cleaned it and it works great. I ended up buying a G22 as well. I have several BHP hi caps from the old days and had a couple Glocks as well so I'm covered. Make sure the gun fits you and you are comfortable with it. If you can't shoot it with confidence then I'd pass. I'm over the 1911/BHP thing and have complete confidence with my Glocks. I worry no more about adding something to a gun or sending it somewhere to make it perfect. The Glock comes prepackaged that way as far as I'm concerned.

If you just want a defensive utility tool then the Glock, but if you wnat something that is sexy and pretty that will hold value until the end of time the BHP is the way to go.

My thoughts precisely.

Although the BHP is my favorite pistol (hence my nickname), I'll take the 9mm Glocks first as a SHTF pistol. BHPs are like those classic cars that you drive around ocasionally while Glocks are like the hard body trucks that you can abuse in hostile environments.

In your case, since you have the chance to buy your brother's pistol, then get the BHP first as BHPs are harder to find lately. Then, you can buy a used 9mm Glock later, which are much more plentiful than the BHP.
