I Need help finding 1911 parts.

I don't know the name of the parts that I need to get when replacing the mainspring housing on my SA Loaded 1911. I have my magwell and mainspring picked out but do not know the name of the spring parts that go in the housing that I need to replace. Do I need a new pin also?


Last question I was told that its desireable to change out the full length guide rod to a standard set up. What one is best to get?

You need a new mainspring and a pin set. I would get a new recoil spring too.

Thank you but my pistol is brand new, Just wondering why I would need a new recoil spring? Also how do I found what pound springs I need? I'm a noob at this....

To be honest I'm not sure what the stock recoil spring weight is, I tried looking it up after I wrote that but didn't see an answer. Because the ILS is a 28# spring, I'm not sure if the stock recoil is also some odd weight to match it.

Generally I go with 18# or 19# main spring with an 18# recoil.

Thank you I'll give SA a call and see if they will help me on the weights needed. #UPDATE# I just called and they said 19lb and no need to change the recoil spring.

Don't bother with the full length guide rod. It is only changed to GI for personal preference. Personally, prefer the full length, because the whole slide can be removed without loosening the bushing, or removing the spring. Makes switching to a .22 conversion very simple.

18# will be fine for a .45 recoil spring. I am not sure what caliber you have or what weight to use for other calibers.

Oh yeah I second (third I guess) that, switch to the GI plug and guide. SA's two piece guide rod is a pain.

I just changed out the MSHs on 2 new 1911s with S&A magwells and just took out the "guts" from the old MSH and put into the new magwells. No need to buy anything else unless you want spare parts.

I have 1911s with GI and various full length guide rods. I prefer the GI type but haven't spent any $$ to replace any of my full length rods. YMMV

If your SA loaded has ILS, you don't need the mainspring housing pin. I run a 19lb mainspring and a 12lb recoil spring in my loaded 9mm. 18lb recoil spring in my Range Officer.

For the GI recoil spring guide I'd highly recommend this kit. It's a flat wire recoil spring with a thinner GI guide rod to fit the Flat wire. Comes with a shokbuf if you want it too. It is supposed to last much longer than regular springs. I love mine. You also need a GI recoils spring plug since the guide rod won't travel through it so it is closed.

I am on the dame boat as you are OP.
I replaced MSH with all guts inside, replaced hrip panels to mutch Magwell from SA.
