1911 8rd magazines question

Are all 8 round magazines same dimensions as7 rounds?

I got impression there are two kinds, one -same as 7rd, and another one with extra length.

I believe you could find both. Afaik 8rd are always the same profile as 7rd though. So there would be no disadvantages to using the 8s, provided they don't induce malfunctions.

Test your mags... I know one of mine will ftf on the last round almost every time! I don't use it any more.

8 rounders generally use a thinner wire spring and a skoshe shorter follower. The less robust spring can cause last round jams.

Which is why the US SOCOM, FBI HRT, and FBI SWAT still use 7 round magazines with their 1911s.

Also, Wilson mags seem to work better than other mags when buying separately.

Wilson 8 rd mags are a tiny bit longer than a traditional 7 rd mag. Have not had any issues using those mags. I prefer to use 7 rd mags when I go shooting with others because it tends to make the ammo last a little longer

Replace the spring with a Wolff 7 rd +Power. Bet it'll work.

I've always been curious what people mean when they say better magazine. For me, I've never had problems with my Chip power mags and they are much cheaper than tripps or wc.

Some guys shoot 1000 rounds week, others 1000 rounds a year. Some remove their empty mag and place it on a bench, others eject them into the dirt while running. Some carry mags daily for duty, others only use their mags an hour a month. People place different degrees of wear on their mags, and mag failure might mean a lost match, a loss of life, or just a minor inconvenience. So some might need mags that are more robust and less failure prone in more demanding conditions.

One of if the things I like about the Tripp Cobra mags is that they're easy to break down and clean between stages. For most people that isn't a concern.

My Kimber mag, and each of my Wilson mags malfunction from time to time but my Colt mags never have. Best to stick with the original, I suppose.

Yep, I use Wilson ETM 8 round mags never had a problem with them so have never tried other quality brands. The Colt 7 rounders can bite me when doing combat mag changes so I don't use them.

I use Wilson 47D mags for shooting IPDA, they get dumped in the dirt, mud, walked on and they still work.

I bought Colt stainless steel 8-round magazines for use in my LW Commander. They fit flush and have been 100% reliable.
