    GLOCK question

I have g19 gen 3 that i recently bought new about 1 month ago
i noticed something that is a bit concerning to me while at the range shooting it

when the magazine is empty and slide locked back it sometimes racks in a round from the next/new magazine upon inserting it in the magwell, i am not physically releasing the slide by pulling on the slide or flipping the lock down, it does it by itself when i insert the new magazine

it doesnt do it all the time but it has done it 2-3 times on different range days

is there something i can look/check into?

**i do slam/hit the bottom of the magazine when i insert it to make sure the magazine is seated and wont fall out, this is usually when the slide releases itself and a round is chambered, i have tried to duplicate with an empty magazine but it hasnt released itself with an empty magazine**

You can always call the manufacturer and have the gun sent in if it's a significant enough problem. I may not be a fan of Glock, but I've heard top notch things about their customer service.

IMHO, if I needed a quick reload, it may be a beneficial quirk.
Anyway...here's a dearth of reasoning to ponder: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Guns

Clear your thumb (right handed) from slide release.

      Check / replace slide release.

Clean mags and GLOCK. (Did you remove all the copper lube?)

And maybe, everything would be all right.

        thanks for the help guys

i will look into the slide stop before i make a true judgement of sending it in

        to answer the other question

no i did not clean off all the copper lube yet also i dont ride the slide release with my thumb

mags are clean and the first incident happend within the 1st 50 rounds before it even got dirty or i had a chance to clean both gun and magazine

im going to clean it and check the release then try shooting it another time at the range and see if it happens again

        thanks

          My answer exactly.
I have a Glock 23 and M&P 9 and I slam the magazine from time to time so I can have it auto forward.

My G19 has done this from time to time, often when doing a combat/tactical reload. After you get used to it, you can get back on target much quicker. I don't consider it a problem.

Either A: don't slam the mag in so hard, there's no need to hit it like a redheaded step child, especially when the slide is back.

or B: if you must slam the mag like a top tier operator, use it to your advantage. There's nothing wrong with the gun, I'd be surprised if every glock didn't do it if you hit it hard enough. Pretty sure I've had it happen at one time or another on all the 8-10 glocks I've shot.

Imo it's not a bad thing when it happens. I understand it's not intentional but it's not a bad thing, just won't plan on it happening.

I reload by bringing up the pistol anyways, so I can see it

I have never had it happen to my Glock 17 gen3 I have put a few thousand rounds through it I see it as a good thing.

its great feature, you need to take advantage of it,I make sure all my pistols can close the slide when I slam the mag, practice practice practice.

I'd look into replacing the slide stop.

This. Inspect the slide stop and also remove all lubricant from the slide stop area.

I generally associate it with some lube having spattered onto the slide stop or where it engages the slide. I don't see it as being a big deal if it actually chambers the round OK.

Beretta 92F series pistols do that, and M&P 9 pistols do that if you slam the magazine in hard.

I fail to see the issue. The idea of putting in a fresh magazine with an open slide is to chamber a round a round anyway. It's one less movement to get you back in the game. You don't need to change anything on your gun, just be cognoscent of it. I have several firearms that do this from time to time. Not a big deal.
