Sheared slide rail on G34

Found that my left rear slide rail had sheared off when I field stripped the gun. I spoke with Glock tech support but they wouldn't give me any hint as to what they would do, even hypothetically. The serial # is Nxxxxx so it's not part of the E-series recall for this same problem.

I'm the 2nd owner and the gun has about 1400 rounds on it. I'm not planning on just shooting the gun with only 3 rails but some people have mentioned that it'll be fine.

I'm just wondering if all the stories out there about Glock taking care of their customers are true or not and just send it in, worst case being $45 shipping + $100 frame replacement, or if there are other options.

Just keep up your Glock contact and send it in.....highly doubt they would leave you hanging.

Send it in, even at worst case I would pay is $100+$45 although I think Glock will take care of it.

I would not shoot a gun like this. I never heard of a side rail shearing off.

From what I think I can see in the photos, it looks more like an impact fracture than a shear. Was the pistol dropped on the slide hard?

BTW the wear on that slide stop seems like more than 1400 round Glock.

OP, is there any damage to the left rear of the slide? Do the slide and frame serial #'s match?

There are no marks on the slide that would indicate an impact big enough to break off the slide tab.

Looks like he got a free frame in the end, so I'll send mine in after removing the Zev connector in there. Any advice on how I should word the request to not screw myself out of a free frame replacement? Express my deep disappointment in such a failure after only 1400 rounds and my hope that they make it right?

Edit: The serial numbers all match (slide, barrel, and frame) and the original owner was also surprised and disappointed about this. I don't believe this gun was abused in any way.

If you know and trust the person you bought if from, cool.

+1 on sending it to Glock with "this is my broken Glock" explanation. But think you have to get a repair order # from them before sending.

Several years ago, Glock had a recall/upgrade & they replaced frames due to the same problem (if I recall correctly). I had two of my frames replaced under warranty. Glock added a "-1" to the serial number after replacement. Does your frame have the -1?

The previous owner was upfront with the holster wear on the slide from practice draws, and the pics were quick iphone pics under florescent lights with oil on the slide as well. Sights are the original sights that the owner put back on, and I can see the outlines where the slide wore evenly just slightly more around aftermarket sights, which also would indicate that the wear was gradual and not due to abuse.

Anyways this is besides the point. 1400 rounds or not, the slide tab should not have failed. In fact my frame looks to have a lot less wear than the one in that ar15.com thread, especially along the tops of the flat polymer sections around the trigger connector and the other rail tab.

I'm not going to shoot the gun and am waiting to see if Glock sends me an RMA.

this actually was a fairly well known fault of Glocks, if you keep up on some of the Glock forums.
