CCW Build Gun(1911)

got a question, planning of building a ccw type gun from an 80% frame, i have some parts laying on my boxes and I thought about assembling,building it, its a 4inch barreled upper that i have,if I build this from my 80% frame and have it etched or have it done 3D engrave serial, how can i register this and maybe put it on my ccw card? is this possible?

thanks i just thought about building this and the first one thing i have to do is have this registered under my name and second can it be added on my ccw?is it possible to register this under my name since I amn the owner?

You'll have to fill out this form (http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/volreg.pdf) and pay $19 to register it.

As for adding it to your permit, you'll have to ask your issuing agency. Mine would definitely not allow it, but yours might.

Those are the facts... and now for my unsolicited opinion, it seems like a very bad idea to me, with no benefits. You want your carry weapon to be as reliable as possible, and 1911's are already not the best reliability as it is, making the frame from an 80% can't possibly help matters. Might also look bad to a prosecutor/jury if you end up needing to use it. And, aside from the fact that this 80% frame seems to be the only 1911 frame you currently own, what's the benefit to using it?

Perhaps I am a little too cautious, and have become overly conservative from too many CCW classes and conversations with firearms attorneys ; but I would be careful about potential personal/legal liability in using a non-factory gun for CCW. In the event that you ever need to use it, at least make sure that it is fitted with an appropriately weighted trigger/safety devices, and does not give the impression of being a customized gun. Just my $.02

So you plan on building a Commander size 1911? I would suggest K.I.S.S. and work on training instead of building a CCW gun. Because guys like gadgets and projects but really people who CCW need training more so.

yes sir training is a factor, dnt wanna mention it but i shoot everyweek 300-500rds a week as im into uspsa, yes training is a factor, my point is I just have some parts that I consider can be put through a whole gun,its a project but yes youre point is training and that is absolutely correct.

Thought about doing the same with ccw and 80% 1911, but OC checked to make sure the guns I listed were actually registered to me before letting them be added to the list, so it'll the same process with any gun. If I have to register the gun, that would defeat one of the main benefits of building an 80% to begin with, wouldn't it?!

For legal purposes, I also think ccw guns should be factory guns.
