1970 Colt Python 6" What is it worth?

Hello Calguns,

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but I wanted to see approximately what my Python is worth. My dad put about 100 rounds of .38 spc through it even when I told him not to fire it. When I transferred it a bunch of years ago, it had previously been unfired. I have the original box, target, spent casings, cleaning rod with brush and cloth brush. Has rubber grips on it currently but has the original wood handles as well. I told my wife I wanted to trade it and get a SCAR 17 or something more usable or maybe I should just keep it until I'm old and gray and pass it down to my kids. Thanks for your help and time. In that condition with everything you have there I'd say it's worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $3k. Best way to evaluate price is to check comparable listings in the Marketplace here and completed auctions at Gunbroker.com.

North of 3K with the box and goodies. Market has been soft for shooter grade guns, nice examples get snapped up.

I'll say about $6k =) or maybe just what a person might be willing to pay for it since they were $300 new back in the days....

You should hold onto it and pass it to your kids. No other feeling like holding something in your hands that you know has been in your family for generations.

It's definitely worth a SCAR. If you aren't going to shoot it, get rid of it and get something you'll shoot.

Thanks all for the replies. It was very informational. It's pretty much a safe queen these days as I know it's worth a bit, just wasn't sure how much a bit.

If selling consider selling it fairly soon, I have been seeing allot of people in various publications that have been following snake guns that they feel the saturation is high and pricing is starting to drop because of it, but ultimately it's just their opinion.

It's worth about 3-3500, you shoulda sold it about 6 months ago when the market was a Lil hotter, will go up over time, I'd keep it

It really depends, I think the current frenzy for pythons has passed, people will still pay a price but that window is dwindling day by day
