    Sig P238

Anyone have any real experience with the P238? I'd like an honest evaluation. A neighbor is looking for her first pistol. Personall I prefer the .45 but she's a novice. I think that a .380 is a better fit.

Great gun. Perfect caliber for a beginner. I absolutely love my P238.

I have one and while I totally dig it, it may not be the best first gun. It's really small and light weight and as a result the recoil is very snappy. Being so small and having such jumpy recoil makes it kinda hard to handle. I think a larger frame 9mm would be better like a g17/19 or springfield xd

Extremely good for CCW. For a first gun? Not so sure. I don't consider it snappy at all, and tho smaller, its less snappy than a Sig 232/Bersa Thunder/PPK, due to the action. Good trigger, good sights, good quality - overall excellent gun. Also very accurate in my experience.

Very Well made gun very reliable and comfortable my wife loves hers!
That being said, it jumps pretty aggressively in the hand tends to scare girls and its single action which is not great for people that panic! Also takes more practice to chamber, check to see if it's loaded, cocking and Uncocking even cleaning!

( I have a beautiful p238 I'm selling if interested but it's off roster ) (I also have a Glock 42 which I considered to be a better choice for for a lady also off roster )

My opinion though I like to see girls carry a smith and Wesson hammerless 38 special... Why because

          Seldom have to clean it!
All they have to do is pull the trigger!
The grip is very comfortable and has a lot of different options in aftermarket choices to find more of a custom fit if they like!
what I like the most is they can hold onto it in their purse no one can see it, if they need to use ithe weapon they can pull the trigger shooting right through the purse (hopefully not name brand purse lol) with no worries of a jam or miss fire, no hammer or moving parts like a slide to get caught on stuff.

Unfortunately for me I don't have an extra one to sell but they are on the roster
          Hope this helps!

Get a few 7rnd mags with the pinkie extension. Makes holding the gun for new shooters more comfortable.

Easy to rack and good clear sights.

Just remember to cover the target with sights.

But I do prefer my P232.

P238 is a great gun but I don't think I would recommend it for someone's first gun. They are really small with a short sight radius and marginal sights for anything past about 7 yards.

If you are only going to use it to carry for SD go for it, but if you want something to shoot on a regular basis, or have no need to carry, I would get something a little larger.

.380 is a good caliber for a beginner although ammo is a bit expensive and limited in variety. 9mm is more practical and would open you up to a whole new variety of weapons to select from. I usually recommend a revolver for a first gun. Easy to learn to shoot, pull the trigger it goes bang, etc. Something like an SP101.

That said I love my P238. So small you almost forget it is there.

                Great gun

I think it is a great little pistol. It is accurate, reliable, and easy to maintain. Unlike a couple of other posters, I say it is a great first gun. Any gun you buy is going to have "snap" in the recoil, but the P238 is not excessive in any way. It has one of the best triggers you could want in a small pocket gun. I have owned both a Glock 42, and a Kahr P380, yet I only have the P238 now because it was a better gun in my opinion. At least for me it is. And it comes with night sights!

Ruger LC380 is a good starter gun and it was a longer grip than p238. It's a lot cheaper also.

Walther PK380 is also good, but it's off roster.
