I'm new to the 1911 world and my knowledge of them is limited. There are some legit 1911 pro's on here. But I really like the Sig Sauer series 1911s. Also seems like you can't go wrong with a Springfield loaded. Me personnaly I wouldn't get a 1911 without a beaver tail grip safety, and I prefer American made like the Sig.

I have a 1911 Sig Stainless. The best value (at $900) of sub $1,500 1911s on the market (IMO). Recently picked up a (off roster) Ruger SR1911 (government and commander) which IMO is the 2nd best value of a 1911. Also own a Springfield Loaded which I enjoy and some other 1911s.I'm new to the 1911 world and my knowledge of them is limited. There are some legit 1911 pro's on here. Again, for value, its hard to beat a Sig or Ruger..

+1 on Springfield and Kimber. Both fine pistols right out of the box. Although SA does have top notch CS. Had to get a couple of replacement parts (that I screwed up) and they sent them out post haste with no probblem.Sorry, not sorry.

Totally agree. I've got a Sig Nitron with rail. Love it too. Everyone warned me that once you get a 1911 you'll likely want another and another. They were right. Thought about a Kimber Custom II, but didn't because of the weak 1 year warranty, customer service reputation and lack of value in that particular model.I have a 1911 Sig Stainless. I even thought about getting a SR1911 before the SSE went away didn't. But consequently I'm moving to Seattle in a few months so I get one there anyhow.Comment

Get the Mil Spec and compare it to the colt. IMO, its tighter and better built.
Its just a great looking and great shooting gun. If they get down to 586.00 like they did when I bought mine, I'll get another one for sureIt takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I just bought a kimber custom tle/rl ii and you're right about one isn't enough but I checked out a Dan Wesson 1911 valor and at $1460 I'm thinking about picking that up at that price as the fitments are tight and I've only read good things about it

I have had a total of 12 mainstream 1911s, the Kimbers are my preference.
To be exact, the Kimber Custom II. Its Kimbers ENTRY LEVEL gun, but fit, features, and finish is not entry level nor its reliability. Its the model that put Kimber on the map.......the biggest seller of 1911s in America for over 20 years now.
Check the price, features, availability, and ACCURACY of the Kimber Custom II. The other models of Kimbers, in my opinion........are more expensive than necessary.Comment

I'm going to disagree with your first part of the post. I took my SA MC Operator to the range to break it in. Put 500 rounds through it (dry) in just a few hours and had zero issues of any kind. Had 500 rounds preloaded into my mags and shot them straight through. No problem.Short term reliability is great. But if you're planning on taking a two or three day class at 8 hrs a day, you don't want the 1911. Very expensive custom 1911s maybe make it through. Personally, every firearm class I've taken, the guys with the 1911s end up with some kind of problem or another and end up shooting a different pistol on the subsequent days.
But if you're just going to the range, 1911s are g2g. For a good basic 1911 no-frills, go with the rock island GI. Fantastic trigger, loose tolerances so it's reliable, and a nice pistol overall. Mine came from the factory with a 4lb trigger. Very crisp too. The SA loaded model is great. There is an all American version with the NMxxxx serial number. NM means American made. The others are made outside the US. I lucked out and got one with the NM serial number. It has been reliable 100%. But I only use it for the range.

Wait... what? Oh.
Springfield Loaded parkerized and a Kimber Ultra CDP II are my mistresses.
I care for them. I run them. I clean them. They work. They're accurate. They're reliable. And they're both box stock (but highly developed; highly modified from The Original).

S&W makes a pretty nice option. Colt sits in the safe - not really one of my favorites. Kimber TLE is my go-to. Love the night sights and checkered front strap. Had a Springfield Range Officer, which was a pretty nice pistol as well.
Always wanted a Dan Wesson PM7.Comment
