    Glock 19 Modifications

    Hi all,

New gun owner here but longtime 2A advocate.
Just jailed my G19 and I wanted to ask about your opinion on some basic modifications for it. Nothing too crazy like slide-work and stippling just yet; mostly just drop in parts.

    1: Vickers extended magazine release
2: Your personal choice of sights
    3: Extra Mags
    4: Ammo and Range practice

Big emphasis on #4 as the only real "modification". Learning to be proficient with it is your best mod.

I would get a trigger first. Stock ones are way too heavy.

Leave it be until you have shot it some. The 19 is a pretty decent pistol and needs little enhancement other than nice sights.

Not to be contentious but I put the Vicker's mag release in my pistol and found it offered no measurable advantage ... I'd advise saving your cash for ammo (and mags).

I agree with above. Best thing you can do it stock up on ammo and go shooting.

Aside from becoming more skilled with it, you will learn what you feel like you need. So many people buy stuff just to buy stuff. Granted there is some trial and error with parts, but there are so many combinations of trigger parts, sights, etc. You could drive yourself crazy trying to build the "perfect" gun with someone else's build sheet, and not even like it.
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

Night sights from Glock for $57 installed.

Basically, I feel that's the only mod needed.

Ammo, good ear pro, and a good range.

Congrats on your new pistol, and welcome.

                  1. Truglo TFO or TFX tritium/fiber optic combo sights.
                  2. Glock extended slide release lever. People with larger hands have experienced failure for the slide to lock back because their hand was on the extended lever. YMMV
                  3. Lone Wolf extended slide lock lever.
                  4. Grip plug (really cosmetic but prevents gunk from getting in.
                  5. I'll be installing the Glock factory 3.5lb minus connector this weekend.
                  6. Talon Grips adhesive grips (original sand paper or rubberized).

When I got my first Glock (17), I got the extended mag release, extended slide stop, 3.5# connector and maybe even more.

I no longer have that but have a Glock 19 and this I haven't really done anything to it yet.

It's a good gun and will work well, I'd say shoot it, practice. If you feel you want to do something to it to improve it, you have time. No 10 day waiting period to get a part to pop in there.

Like if you feel it's not easy to manipulate the slide stop, extended slide stop. If you feel the trigger is just too hard for you to break accurately, maybe look into some trigger parts.

I have been thinking about getting an aftermarket trigger though. Something like a Fulcrum or Pyramid. I like Pyramid's colors.

Also, I really wish I had night sights. If you can get them, you probably won't regret it.

Also wanted to add that I use Weapon Shield oil on my slide rails and it feels so buttery smooth, it's a little surreal. YMMV though.

I've done the following to my Gen 4 G19:

                      Ameriglo TCAP sights
                      OEM Gen 3 G17/34 trigger/trigger bar
                      OEM minus connector
                      Apex ultimate safety plunger
                      grip plug

I also did the $0.25 polish job on the trigger bar and connector. After a few hundred rounds the trigger is surprisingly good.

OEM parts from Glock can go a long way.

                        As a G19 junkie

                        New sights are a must
Defoor or Hack sights (I prefer defoor and almost all.of my glock 19s are setup with defoors)

Next buy mags and ammo and shoot it. Don't listen to th guys saying you need a upgraded trigger. Stock or stock + OEM minus connector work great

To echo what others have said, start with lots of ammo and range time.

I started lukewarm with my gen4 G19. Thought I'd wanna swap out the factory Glock night sights, do a 3.5 connector, etc. After several hundred practice rounds I've found I shoot this pistol as well or better than most of my others - single actions included. So much so that I've shelved plans to mod or mess with anything. Get to know it for a while first, then decide what does and doesn't work for you.

I'm a retired police officer and carried a Glock, on and off duty, for about 20 years. I've also owned more than a few. Here's my take; If you want a range gun then pay for all the gadgets, do-dads, mods and upgrades. If you want a gun you'll use for personal defense, put some good sights on your 19, maybe some Talon grips too, and then shoot it on a regular basis. That's it. Everything else is unnecessary.
To me, there's little upside to doing significant modifications to a carry or personal defense gun. The advantages people believe mods give them are mostly between their ears, not really enhancing the performance of the firearm. And the downside is, if you actually shoot some one, every one of those modifications is going to be scrutinized to the extreme. From your 3.5 connector to the "Punisher" cover plate on the back of the slide. Hey, just an opinion, but you asked.
BTW, I really like Ameriglo PRO I-dot sights. I have them on a Shield, a Glock 19 and a Glock 35.
If you buy anything because it has "tactical" or "operator" in the name, we probably don't run in the same circles.

Depends what you like. Me, My first 2 would be new sights and upgraded trigger.
