COLT Python pricing question…

Is $2300 for a 6 inch bbl. almost like new Python in .357 a good price?

Has original box, missing papers. No line on cylinder, but small mark that satin stainless gets from rubbing on a hard surface.

OK price. If you were to buy it at an auction you would be paying a little more.

It depends on if it has the original grips and how old it is. The Python experts are going to want to know this in order to give an educated response.

lol. *waves hand* that is not the answer we are looking for....and arguably the question wasn't worded properly. It is not the condition of the gun but the actual AGE of the gun. What is the serial number? What is the physical age? THAT is what tells you the value of a Python, not necessarily LNIB.

For instance, a 1955 NIB Colt 6" Python with box and papers and original grip is worth anywhere from 8k to 10k. (this is a collector piece with collector's prices) versus a LNIB 1980s Colt 6" Python which is worth closer to 2.5k-3k

That was 40 years ago. The box & papers now are worth more than the entire gun back then. At least I kept the original grips.

Don't feel bad you are not the first and you probably wont be the last. I found out last night that a Shotgun I bought in 1977 is worth about double with the box and papers than just the gun alone.

You weren't and 40 years ago it didn't matter except to hardcore collectors because most of the guns that hardcore collectors chased didn't come with boxes in the first place or there was no expectation anyone would save the box (Lugers, old Winchesters, old Single Action Armies.). it didn't become a thing as the norm until Blue Book value guides like the one from S.P. Fjestad made it such a big deal.
