I recently purchased an M&P Shield in .40 S&W (CA Compliant) and I read that you can drop in a 9mm barrel into the .40 S&W and shoot 9mm through it because the barrel dimensions are all the same. However, I think the CA Compliant Shield barrels might be slightly different because of the loaded chamber indicator. I'm interested in buying the conversion barrel for this gun but I'm worried that the CA Compliant barrel might be different that a regular Shield barrel. Does anyone know of anything or even know what I'm talking about?

I don't think so - not because of the barrel at all - a .40 has a much larger rim dimension than a 9mm, so you might be able to feed, but you'll never extract.
The swap barrels you probably read about are the .40 to the .357 sig (which uses a .40 as the parent case).sigpic NRA Life Since 1986

I don't know about the Shield, but many people have bought 9mm barrels and magazines for their full size M&P40s and used them without issues.
If you're worried about the LCI on the Shield, just buy the replacement part from Midway or Brownells and change it out. I did my friends this past Saturday in about 2 minutes. 3/32 punch and brass hammer. Done.

What do you mean buy the replacement part and change it out?Comment

It's good
The video is a great how to video. Looks simple enough. There is your answer OP.Comment

I know that it can be done with the regular Shield, but my question is if the CA Compliant Shield that has the pop up loaded chamber indicator runs into the barrel tabs, will it work with a regular Shield barrel? I have attached photos of the regular Shield and the CA compliant Shield.Last edited by -Josh-; 02-17-2016, 12:40 PM.Comment

Hes talking about the no profile LCI. You remove the CA compliant shark fin and replace it with this part. Basically a blank to fill the void where the fin was before. It's literally a 1 min process.

I see what your saying now OP. Not sure how a complaint barrel would fit in a CA version. I would think the LCI would interfere. I would try to find a CA compliant barrel just to be safe.Last edited by TruEdge; 02-17-2016, 12:54 PM.The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. The no-profile with 9mm should probably work.Comment

Yea but even the no profile would stick out like the regular shark fin possibly interfering with the way the non CA compliant barrel cut is.
