I wanted to rent some full size 9mm pistols before purchasing. Do you all have recommendations of what to try? I'll probably visit Bullseye in San Rafael for the rentals and range time.

Are you thinking of a polymer frame or steel frame? Do you want it to have a rail for mounting a laser or light? I'd decide on that to narrow down the choices.

I was able to go to a vendor fair at a local range a few years ago before "the list" got so limited, and tried several full size 9mm. I shot the best groups by far with the baby desert eagle and I wanted a steel frame so that's what I bought. But was able to try several make/models, too bad now the CA roster list is so much shorter.

Go to a range and try as many as you can. Find out what you get better groups with. I have small hands and the M&P 9 works great for me . Be shure to try the CZ they are fun.

Indeed they do! Admittedly, the real difficulty is finding one that is both in stock, and on the CA Roster.

The Glocks, CZ, Beretta, HK, & Sig recommendation covers just about every major choice on the Roster. Throw in FMK, Armscor, Hi Point, Browning/FN Hi Power, Sig P6, Walther P1, the two 9mm 1911s (one is out of standard production, the other is a Kimber) and you have basically covered all of the on Roster 9mms.

I really don't want to spend the kind of money necessary for a reliable 1911. The desert eagle isn't easily serviceable enough for my time constraints.

Plus one. If you can get your hands on a XDM 4.5 or 5.25 length barrel, it's a sweet shooter.

M&P 9 or 9c.

I have both, and love them. I also have the shield in 9mm.

Glock 19 is also a good gun.

The Beretta 92f is a proven platform.

I love all of them for different reasons.

It all boils down to what YOU like.

My guess is that eventually you will have more than one.
