Want in mainly as a range gun, but would like it also to serve as home defense too. I know w/the 9mm the ammo is cheaper...just need some of the pro's and con's...any input is much appreciated.

GLOCK 17 or 22?!

OK - I actually am going to point out a few of my personal feelings:
Glock is best in 9mm IMHO
9mm is cheaper
Your going to start a caliber war
If you don't mind using reloads then the 22 is not going to be too expensive, but 9mm reloads are even cheaper. (I never use reloads, but if I did it would only be in my Glock)
Now I have to ramble
Shot placement, followup, hollow point expansion of 9mm vs .45ACP, CA magazine limit, Glocks blow up, ramble ramble, ramble...

9mm is cheaper. 40s&w has more omph behind it. If you're practiced with both, then either will do the job so long as you can get proper shot placement.Comment

ooohh, tough choice.... I'd probably get the 22. I'm looking at one of the cop/officer returns in .40. its something like 350ish.... I'm also looking for some plastic fantastic!

I would go with the G17..Comment

I prefer Glock pistols in anything other than .40 cal, I tried to like them at a couple of different times but just could not dig the way they shoot. I think it has more to do with the way I perceive the felt recoil of the Glock pistol in .40, the 9mm and .45 Glocks are much more friendly for some reason. I suggest to shoot both and see what you prefer.Comment

I think most people will agree that shot placement if more important than the caliber and base on that assumption more range time will allow you to better develop your marksmanship. Since you sounds like you don't have a preference for a handgun caliber yet, go with the the 17 and the cheaper ammo cost so you can get get more range time.Comment

Buy the one you can hit the target with.Comment

Considerations:
What is the purpose of the gun.
Target shooting: the 9mm is cheaper which means you tend to shoot more.
Self Defense: I'd take a 40 cal over the 9mm.
Compromise: Issue of 9mm vs 40 cal for many comes to cost of ammo, 40 costs more.
A Glock 22 can be fitted with a 9mm, but a Glock 17 can't be fitted with a 40.
Given that choice, I would probably take the Glock 22.

Get the G22 and a conversion barrel. The 40-9 might not be 100% reliable as the stock Glock but plenty enough for range use. I own a G22 with LWD 40-9 conversion barrel, and so far 2k round and only have 2 FTE (with wolf classic).Taiwan born, Chinese descent, red white and freaking blue America citizen.
Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.Comment
