Phelps revolver?

I remember back in the late 80's hearing about a wheelgun that was chambered for the .45-70 and .50-70 buffalo hunting cartridges. I believe it was the Phelps revolver? I tried doing a search on google and yahoo and came up empty. Am I spelling the name wrong? Anyone remember this gun?

We have one at the shop if you would like to own one. Sorry no wheels or bipod included, but it comes with a beefy holster and belt.

Big boom for bears or that pesky gopher. I hear it's not bad with 300 gr. bullets. Anything heavier....OUCH!

Question - which one is more powerful, the 45-70 or the 500 S&W?

Those 500 S&W's practically grow on trees these days. Iron Sights even rents them.

The .500S&W is by far more powerful in a pistol than any factory .45-70 load in a pistol. I have heard you can handload the .45-70 to approach .500S&W power in a pistol, but unless you need your sidearm to match your rifle, I'd stick with the .500 for better availability of high power loadings.

It also depends what you want to do with the thing. I sold my .50AE as I didn't have a use for it. If they ever make a scandium .500 though, I'll bite. I'm a sucker for punishing handguns

The .500 seems to kick less int he S&W revolver than the magnum research ones too- I think it's all in the grip design. Neither are especially brutal or punishing to me. The scandium .357 J frame and .44 are much worse.

Is it chambered for .50-70? I just want a good picture of one in .50-70 to show to Chopper.
